How is Green Tea Good for You?

Are you a tea or coffee person? I find coffee too acidic, and it doesn’t sit well with me, so I prefer tea for the ole’ get up and go! People have been drinking green tea for centuries, but how is green tea good for you? Maybe you don’t care, but just love the caffeine rush. I get it. I am addicted to caffeine, but I choose to get it from a healthier source.

What is Green Tea’s Health Benefits?

Loaded with Antioxidants In today’s COVID world, never have we seen so much attention being drawn to the immune system. People who succumb to the virus usually have underlying health conditions. Those with strong immune systems may not even know they have the Corona Virus. This should be a wake-up call, but the drive-thru window lines, of fast-food restaurants, have never been longer in here in the good ole’ USA.

There are many things out there that can boost your immune system (it has been the theme of this blog). Green Tea is one that I almost overlooked (even though I drink it every day). Until I looked in behind the scenes and discovered that green tea has a lot more going on than meets the eye.

Green tea is jammed full of antioxidants! It contains Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG)… yea, I know, a long sciency word. EGCG is one of the most powerful plant compounds found in green tea.

These potent plant compounds go to war with free radicals. EGCGs reduce the number of these radicals and help protect your cells and molecules from damage. Damaged cells, as we all know, may lead to cancer which is a disease of the cells. Research has tested EGCGs ability to treat many types of diseases.

Can it improve brain function? Caffeine is the key active element in tea. You may drink tea or coffee when you need to think or concentrate on a task at hand. Tea has a different stimulating effect that helps you concentrate more than coffee.

Caffeine blocks adenosine. This is a molecule in the body used for the digestive process. Adenosine also makes you drowsy. This, in turn, allows for the firing of brain neurons, and your concentration transmitters (like dopamine) are increased in your brain.

Research has shown consistently that caffeine can bring improvement to various aspects of brain function. It has a positive effect on mood, reaction time, and memory.

Green Tea also contains an amino acid known as L-theanine. This amino acid has the ability to cross the blood-brain-barrier. This is a “barrier” that protects the brain from disease-causing pathogens and toxins present in the blood. This allows for an increase in GABA which has anti-anxiety effects and excellent for the treatment of mental health. This also increases dopamine and the production of alpha waves in your brain.

Caffeine combined with L-theanine has a synergistic effect in your body. Small amounts of caffeine joined in unison with L-theanine produce a different kind of buzz than you get from coffee. People have reported having a more stable energy vibe and an ability to be more productive drinking green tea than with coffee.

Burn that fat!  Green tea increases your metabolic rate and encourages the burning of stored fat. The caffeine in the tea may move fatty acids from fat tissue and prepare them to be used as energy. The catechin antioxidant can also speed up your metabolism and help break down excess fat. Caffeine and catechin together can increase the amount of energy your body uses. Studies have determined that the weight loss experienced from green tea is not significant, but it does add an additional tool for fighting back against weight gain

For diabetics? One out of ten American citizens now has diabetes. Many more will be soon be joining those ranks. Diabetes is a true worldwide pandemic that will not be over soon. There is no end in sight!

Green tea may help stop type II diabetes from developing. A study performed in Japan showed a significantly lower chance of developing diabetes when drinking green tea… as much as 42%. I imagine the Japanese diet is healthier than most of the world, so you have to take that into consideration. Green tea has been proven to lower fasting glucose levels and improve insulin sensitivity. I have laid off drinking coffee because it actually causes my blood sugar to spike. I have not noticed any spikes when drinking green tea.

Is green tea good for your heart? Hitting the populations harder than diabetes is heart disease. HEART DISEASE is on top of the list for the leading cause of death for anyone on our precious planet.

Green tea may have an impact on improving many of the factors that lead to a bad heart. The powerful antioxidant activity, of green tea, helps increase the antioxidant activity in your blood and protects LDL particles from oxidation. Antioxidants are able to reduce inflammation and promote healthy cell functioning which will go a long way in preventing strokes and improve your heart’s health.

Green tea drinkers often live longer than non-consumers. Studies have shown that people drinking green tea daily have a 20% lower risk of developing heart disease and suffering the devastating effects of a stroke. With that being said, green tea drinkers usually have healthier eating habits, to begin with.

Promotes healthy skin It is common knowledge that green tea is the main ingredient in many of the world’s skincare products. It has interwoven itself into the skincare industry bigtime. Green tea is known for its antioxidant and anti-aging properties. Green tea skincare products soothe and help protect your skin. Green tea also helps relieve sebum (new word for me!). This is an oily and waxy substance produced by your sebaceous glands. And finally, green tea helps curtail the signs of aging. who doesn’t like that?

Just about every skin type can handle green tea. There may be a small percentage of our general populous who are too sensitive to use green tea skincare supplements. It is safe to use every day. The great news is there are no products that you need to avoid when applying green tea supplements to your skin or one that you made at home.

Oral health Green tea may promote optimal dental health. It can diminish your chance of developing gum disease. Drinking too much coffee can be harmful for your teeth. Green tea also helps you steer clear of cavities and bad breath. Coffee can also lead to halitosis or bad breath because of its heavy scent and entice bacteria to form in your mouth. And, having a cup of joe a day can broaden your chances of developing cavities

Don’t break a leg! This lady I know just broke her leg. She is in her 80s. This will definitely halt her daily activities for a while (and she is still active in the real estate business). I admire her for keeping at life! But, she has a horrible diet and I am surprised she has made it this far.

When you are young, you don’t give a second thought about strong bones. Life will catch up to you! Sooner, or later. Green tea is another tool to put your tool kit for keeping your bones strong. The antioxidants in green tea have exhibited its ability to protect your bones against bone loss and slashing your chances of fractured bones.

Antioxidant polyphenols such as EGCG are abundant in green tea. They have a positive impact on your bone mineral density by halting oxidative damage to your bone cells and they also help limit inflammation which in turn supports bone building.

As people, we probably don’t think of our bones as living tissue. In reality, your skeletal structure is a living dynamic system. Your bone health relies completely on a meticulous balance between bone formation and bone resorption. Bone resorption is when osteoclasts (large nucleate bone cells) break down tissues in your bones and transfer minerals from bone to blood. There is a lot of activity going on in your bones. Even bone marrow. Adult stem cells are released from your bones into your bloodstream to help build stronger tissues.

An antioxidant in green tea called epigallocatechin (ECG) stimulates the action of a crucial enzyme that can bolster bone growth by as much as 79%. ECG can increase your bone mineralization in cells which in turn will strengthen your bones. ECG will not have a toxic effect in your cells. It weakens the action of osteoclasts to give bone formation the edge over resorption. Osteoporosis is a bone disease. This is when your bones begin to break down, and this condition will increase your chances of fractured or broken bones.

What is the origin of green tea?

Would you believe it. or not. According to legend, in 2732 B.C., green tea was discovered by the chance meeting of a tea leaf falling into boiling water. A Chinese emperor named Shen Nung loved the scent and drank the hot water with the infused tea leaf. Legend has it, he loved the warm invigorating feeling brought on by the tea.

Tea expanded rapidly in China between the 4th and 8th centuries, B.C. Tea was used for everyday pleasure and enjoyment. Tea plantations popped up all over China. Tea merchants became rich and flaunted their wealth and status.

The Chinese empire had tight reins on the crop’s preparation and cultivation. Young women, presumed to be pure, were the only ones allowed to handle the leaves. These selected young ladies were restricted from consuming garlic, onions or any strong spices, to prevent the odor coming off their fingertips from contaminating the precious tea leaves.

Black tea was invented so they could export tea to foreign lands and that often required long journeys. A fermentation process would preserve the leaves and increase its shelf life. This process turns the tea leaves black, and it allowed the tea to keep its flavor and aroma longer.

Tea began to travel west in the 17th century and became a huge commodity for Great Britain. It eventually became their national beverage and lead to its famous “tea time” in the middle of the day. The British imposed heavy taxation on a newly formed colony in the Americas. The colonists dumped 45 tons of tea in the Boston Harbour claiming taxation without representation. This was the first act of defiance against the mighty empire which eventually led to war and the formation of the United States of America… and a boom of coffee sales in the Americas!

What is the Difference Between Green and Black Tea?

First of all… all teas come from the same plant… the tea tree. The difference is that black tea is oxidized. There are many processes used in black tea preparation which offers many unique flavors in the marketplace.

In making black tea, whole tea leaves are cut at peak freshness and the leaves are allowed to wither. Letting the leaves wither naturally reduces the amount of water in the plant. The leaves are then set out to dry and oxidize in a process call fermentation.

Fermentation changes the chemical composition of the tea leaves. The longer you allow the leaves to oxidize, the darker the leaves will get. This lengthy oxidation process grants the leaves its bold flavor.

Green tea leaves are allowed to wither slightly by either a pan-fried, oven-dried or steam drying process to prevent oxidation from occurring. Since fermentation is avoided, the tea retains its natural green color and a grassier flavor. Most of the valuable antioxidant qualities are destroyed during the fermentation process. So if you want the health benefits of tea, choose green tea. If you are looking for more unique flavors black tea may not be your cup of tea (pun intended). Black tea also tends to be more acidic.

Can you drink too much green tea? Two elements in green tea are potentially dangerous in abundant quantities… caffeine and EGCG It is not easy to reach toxic levels unless you down a whole bunch of tea.

Drinking 3-5 cups a day is safe. This should be about 500 grams of EGCG. You would have to consume 800 mg of EGCG for 4 straight months to reach a toxic state that could harm your liver. Too much caffeine intake could eventually cause damage to your kidneys.

The longer you steep your tea and the hotter the water determines how much caffeine and EGCG is released in your tea. If you were to chew and swallow tea leaves, I am sure you would be completely wired. I have chewed on a few coffee beans before and the amp effect was well beyond a normal cup of joe.

What are some of the cons of drinking green tea? Green tea can have some side-effects… nausea… dehydration… lethargy… dizziness… insomnia… tremors… restlessness… confusion… to name a few. Some individuals are super sensitive to some of the properties residing in green tea. Or, if you have some underlying health problems, to begin with… and yea, if you abuse it, you may experience some of these side-effects.

Green tea can also be contaminated if you buy it from an unethical source. High levels of chemicals may be added… like coloring agents. Pesticides, herbicides, and heavy metals may also contaminate tea. Avoid buying tea from unknown sources, and there may be a reason when green tea is sold really cheap.

Is drinking too much green tea bad for your kidneys? Too much liquid, in general, can overload your kidneys. So, yea, overdoing tea could damage your kidneys. Too much caffeine and EGCG are also bad for the health of your kidneys.

Is green tea a laxative? No. Green tea may boost your metabolism, but it will not have a laxative effect in your body. Sometimes green tea can be found with other herbal formulations that will act as a laxative. I have drunk a brand of detox tea in the past that once you consumed it, you best not stray to far from the bathroom. Just saying.

Black tea is more flavorful than green tea (in general) I don’t care for English Breakfast and there are other blends that to me, are just god awful. Regular black tea isn’t so bad, and it still has some health benefits. Green tea offers more antioxidant power and you find your self benefiting from your caffeine buzz. You can mix it with some raw honey or some fruit blended in your ninja thingie to enhance the taste. On its own, it can be a little on the bitter side.

Maybe you prefer coffee or don’t drink caffeinated beverages at all. Coffee gives me headaches.  I am not quite sure why. It is not the caffeine. I also never feel well afterward, maybe its the acid in the coffee. so I stick with tea. I have never had any issues with tea, so I forgive the British (a lot of my ancestors are from there). Anyway… thanks for reading.

Many blessings, Brian.

Do green tea drinkers live longer?

Green tea is from a plant (tree) found in nature. Many plants found all over our planet have beneficial properties that aid in human and animal health. I am not making any particular claims of curing or fixing any ailments. I have included scientific research done by professionals to let you decide for yourself.

Are dates Healthy and Why You Should Add them to Your Diet

Dates are delicious. A sweet and chewy delight. They are so good, it is like eating candy, but are dates healthy? Actually, dates are loaded with nutrition and should be added to your diet on a regular basis.

Nomads trudging the deserts of North Africa have been able to sustain themselves for days on dates alone (with water of course). Dates are ideal for desert caravans being easily portable and having a long “shelf” life. They provide instant energy and nutrition for enduring the hardships of a hostile environment.

What are the benefits of eating dates?

Dates are rich in vitamins and minerals If you have a few dates every day, you won’t need to blow any money buying dietary supplements. Dates are choked full of vitamins and minerals like vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, A1, and C. Dates are also a good source of calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, selenium, manganese, copper and zinc.

Dates are a whole food source, so your body is able to process these essential vitamins and minerals into your body. Don’t expect that to happen when you pop a multi-vitamin into your mouth. Those vitamins and minerals are more likely than not to pass right on through your digestive system without providing you with any nutritional benefit.

Vitamins and minerals perform a multitude of essential roles in your body. They boost your immune system (everyone knows to seek out vitamin C when you have a cold). They convert food into energy and help repair damaged cells. They also build up strong bones and heal wounds… and so much more.

Rich in protein Dates are an excellent source of protein. They help us stay in tip-top shape and help keep our muscles strong. Gym fanatics chomp on some dates every day as part of their work out routine.

High in fiber Consuming fiber helps slow down the digestive process which will help prevent your blood sugar from spiking. This is good news for diabetics. Fiber helps solidify your stool and making it easier for you to pass waste and avoid constipation. Thus… you will experience better bowel health.

Fiber is basically the roughage from plant-based foods that the body can’t break down. It passes through your intestines undigested. This enables your digestive system to stay clean. Fiber also helps kick bad cholesterol and harmful carcinogens out the back door.

Loaded with free-radical fighting antioxidants Antioxidants are so vital in keeping your cellular health top-notch. Free radicals are basically unstable molecules that compromise the health of your cells.

Dates contain 3 of the most potent antioxidants. Flavonoids help reduce inflammation and may help reduce the risk of diabetes and Alzheimer’s (two diseases on the rise). Cartonenoids promote a healthy cardiovascular system and reduce the risks of eye-related afflictions. Phenolic acid also has anti-inflammatory properties and helps you steer clear of cancer and heart trouble.

Strengthens your nervous system Dates are crammed with potassium (which is the 3rd most abundant mineral in your body). DO NOT underestimate the importance of Potassium. This wonderful mineral is classified as an electrolyte. Why? It is highly reactive in water. When potassium is dissolved in water, positive ions are created.

I know… this is kind of sciency... but, your body runs on electricity. This mineral helps activate nerve impulses throughout your central nervous system. Nerve signals help regulate muscle contractions, your heartbeat, and various other reflexes throughout your body.

Love your heart. A diet high in potassium is also good for your heart. It helps lower your blood pressure by flushing out excess sodium. It is common knowledge that table salt raises your blood pressure. You should do your best to avoid excess sodium if you truly desire excellent health.

Avoid processed foods as much as possible. If you do choose to go that route, please take the time to read the label, and try to find a product with low sodium. I bought some tomato paste today with only 20mg of sodium. I rarely buy anything processed, but tomato paste comes in handy in making healthy soups.

When you take care of your heart and begin eating healthy, at the same time you lessen the risk of having a stroke. A lack of blood flow to the brain is what leads to a stroke. Potassium-rich foods are not a quick fix in preventing heart disease, but it is a piece of the puzzle. Our modern diet is loaded with food that does more harm than good. Do your diligence and find out what foods do your body good.

Dates are a brain booster In recent times, dates have created a burst of interest in its ability to boost brain power and alleviating some brain damage. In a laboratory setting, supplementing with dates has been shown to improve a decline in memory and cognitive dysfunction due to age, as seen in diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Dates contain 2 mg of choline. Your body creates a little of this nutrient, but not enough, so you need to get more of it from outside food sources like dates, nuts, or seeds.

Choline is essential for brain development. A study done with over 2000 70-year-olds showed that those with higher choline levels performed better cognitively than those with low levels. Choline has been linked to inducing stronger memories and better learning capabilities.

Skincare     Dates are used in cosmetics… primarily in extracts and oils. The desert is a very harsh environment that is not too kind to your face. Desert dwellers have benefited immensely by pampering their faces with date oils. Dates have strong antioxidant powers and they help prevent the face from the effects of premature aging.

Date oil helps nourish your skin, improve your skin’s elasticity, and delay the effects of wrinkles. Nobody wants to look old, so if you want to steer clear of aging skin, dates may help you in the long run.

Historical data on dates

Dates were discovered thousands of years ago. Dates were known to have healing powers by the ancients. Science now backs that up. But regardless of any healing powers, we love to eat them because they are so deliciously good. NATURE’S CANDY!

Dates grow on palm trees in clusters. The date palm is originally from an area now known as Iraq. In ancient times this area was called Mesopotamia. Dates are thought by some to be the oldest cultivated fruit in the world. Dates have been a staple food throughout the Middle East and the Indus Valley for several millennia.

Date palms have since migrated to Spain, Northern Africa, Southwest Asia, Mexico, and California. There are 30 different kinds of dates from around the world. There are 3 broad types: soft, semi-dry, and dry.

Why pregnant women should eat them

Eating dates during the last couple of weeks of pregnancy may stimulate cervical dilation and possibly lower the need for induced labor. Dates may also help shorten labor duration. One study also showed that dates have a positive effect on post pardom blood loss.

Dates are completely healthy and safe to eat during pregnancy. They can fight back fatigue, which is often felt during pregnancy, by adding a much-needed burst of energy. Dates are also full of vitamins and minerals which a mother needs for her child. The fiber in the dates will help keep her digestive system running smoothly.

Dates also provide a healthier alternative for that familiar ice cream craving that is often stirred up during pregnancy. It will satisfy the sweet tooth… I don’t have a clue what to substitute for that pickle itch.

Can Diabetics Eat Dates?

Diabetes just sucks. Poor food choices in our world are creating a worldwide pandemic… I bet you are tired of that word… but it fits in with the definition. No… this is really a huge problem. What is different in today’s world? The majority of food in the modern world is processed. I wouldn’t even call these processed “foods” food!

Dates are real food. Full of nutrients. Even though they are full of sugar, they are also a complete nutritional package. The worst thing a diabetic can use is straight processed sugar. This will cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels. Diabetes is complicated and numerous foods have created type II diabetes, so diabetics have to proceed with caution when using sweeteners.

Now the majority of dietitians and doctors will advise you to stay clear of sweets and limit your fruit and carbohydrate intake. This is sound advice unless you dig deeper into the mystery.

I am a type 2 diabetic. I followed the suggested food chart laid out for diabetics and ended up frustrated and full of dismay. To tell you the truth… I had to bend the rules… and it did not work… it got worse. My blood sugar was over 300 and I ended up at the VA getting scolded by a war veteran doctor for wasting his time in the ER.

I wasn’t to happy with the doc, because a google search told me to go to the ER with that type of reading. You see, I could not eat 4 ounces of lean meat and leafy low carb vegetables and feel full. I was starving and always hungry. I was ravenous! So…I ate large portions of meat to fill in the void…

The meds were not working on me and my numbers were getting worse, quickly. The food was killing me! Yea, I know I am going off tangent here, but the only ones reading this part are diabetics… right?

Here I was feeling hopeless… for about a week. I don’t like feeling defeated. I am a fighter. I found a website about reversing type II diabetes and controlling type I. They promote strategies that are in complete conflict with modern medicine.

Modern medicine doesn’t have a solution. Diabetics always get worse over time and people lose limbs and go blind. Not a pretty picture. So, I was all in trying something revolutionary (actually their techniques were used a long time ago with success, but ignored… of course).

Drum roll, please… What do these rebels recommend? A low-fat, whole-food, plant-based diet. You can eat as much fruit, rice, and potatoes as you desire… but you have to eliminate all animal products (yes, this means cheese too) from your diet. This works. My last reading was 92. I have lost over 20 pounds without trying and my blood pressure is back to normal. Go to for testimonials and more information. (I am not an affiliate for them)

So, getting back to dates. I eat about 4 every day. Dates have been shown the ability to increase the production of insulin and help reduce the rate of glucose in the blood. The fiber in the dates also helps slow down spikes in your blood glucose.

Fat is the real enemy in diabetes… not carbs. You have to treat insulin resistance. When pancreas beta cells get smothered in fat, they are no longer able to function normally. This is why carbs raise your blood sugar. Even healthy plant fats will spike my blood. As long as I don’t overload on fatty foods, I can indulge in all the whole food carbs I desire and eat food like dates and raw honey in moderation.

Really… Can You Grow a Date Palm from a 2000-Year-Old SEED?

An Israeli architect named Ehud Netzer discovered the tomb of Herod the Great. This was the ruler of ancient Judea said to have put a hit out for all the infant boys in the kingdom in an attempt to get rid of baby Jesus. Who really knows if this really happened, but Herod the Great did exist.

Herod’s palace was on top of Mount Masada, and when Ehud excavated the site, he found a bunch of date palm seeds. The seeds were sent to Yale University in the 1960s and planted after undergoing an examination. They were successfully able to grow a tree that they called a Methuselah Palm.

The remaining seeds were shipped off to Zurich, Switzerland, and were put through a carbon dating test. They were confirmed to be several thousands of years old!

How do You Eat Dates?

There are many ways to enjoy dates. Dates are scrumptious on their own. Or you could soak them in a little water, wait 10 minutes, and put them in a food processor. Then take the pulp and roll them in coconut flakes or chopped up almonds or pecans. They even sell them like that in the store.

Add them to salads or soups. They are excellent in fruit smoothies. I use them in homemade energy drinks. I eat fruit at breakfast and always throw some dates in the mix. Eat three to five every day for nutritional support. Don’t overdo it, they are high in natural sugar and are best used in moderation.

You can also substitute dates for sugar in recipes. You can make a paste with 2 cups of dates and a half cup of water and put them in a food processor. Use a one-to-one ratio. If you need a cup of sugar, substitute a cup of date paste. You can also find date sugar in the store if you want to save time.

Some dates have pits, so make sure you remove them before adding them to your blender. You can buy them without pits, but the tastier ones contain pits. Happy eating!

What is the Difference Between Fresh and Dried Dates?

Most dates sold in the marketplace are dried dates. You can tell by their wrinkly skin. There isn’t much difference as far as nutritional content. Dried dates contain double the carbohydrates and have more fiber than fresh dates. They also have higher amounts of calcium and iron. Fresh dates contain more vitamin C. Fresh dates won’t have all the wrinkles and have a softer texture.

Farmers harvest dates in the fall and early winter. This is the time of the year that dates taste the freshest. Dried dates can last a long time in sealed containers. In my area, the best dates you can find are Medjool dates. Some date brands are best used for sugar substitution, but Medjool dates are stand on their own. An excellent choice for satisfying a sweet tooth. I would like to get my hands on some fresh dates and try them out.

if you are trying to avoid sweets, try eating some dates to satisfy the urge. It only takes a few to do the job. Dates are a superfood that you should consider adding to your diet. Starting your day with fruit is really beneficial for your health.

Dates are really delicious and deserve a shot at winning your heart… and being good for it too!

Thanks for reading… to your health… Brian

I am making no claims that dates will cure any condition. It is food. Food is able to help the body in many ways by offering your body nutrition. Proper nutrition has the ability to turn back cellular damage in many people. Everyone’s body reacts differently to natural foods, as it also does when given medication by doctors. There is a lot more going on behind the scenes, that we as people, can not possibly know.

What is Maca Root Powder?… A Review of the Best

What is maca root powder?

Maca is one of the most nutritional plants in the world. Native Peruvians have used this superfood for thousands of years. It was probably first domesticated between 1300 to 2000 years ago in San Blas, Junin by Inca farmers.

Legend has it that Peruvian warriors used Maca as a stimulant before battle. It provided the warriors with a much-needed energy boost and enhanced their ability to focus on the task at hand.

Maca is often referred to as Peruvian ginseng. It is often sought out for its aphrodisiac effects. Maca is the main ingredient in many male importance supplements (ED). But, maca has many other benefits besides being a sexual aid in the bedroom.

Maca grows in the Peruvian Andes. Maca is not an herb It is a cruciferous vegetable, and a member of the mustard family, It is also related to broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and kale (some of the most nutritious vegetables). Maca has a nutty and butterscotch like flavor.

You will need to climb high up into the Andes Mountains to find maca. It can be located as far up as 13,000 feet. It thrives in harsh and inhospitable environments. Maca can grow in poor soil. It can survive frigid cold temperatures, high winds, droughts, and flooding.

Late winter or early spring is harvest time for maca. When maca is ready, the plant’s roots are yanked from the ground and left out to dry in the sun on large tarps. The drying process takes about 10 to 14 days, and then they are now ready for processing.

The tubers are transported to a facility and all the dirt and bacteria are scrubbed off (bacteria in the soil is actually good for your immune system, just saying!). In a selling environment, you have to clean off the dirt. The maca is now sent through large grinders which transform it into a powdered form. Maca can be stored for years as long as it is protected from insects and molds.

What are the Benefits of Maca?

May increase libido for both sexes Maca helps boost sexual drive in both men and women. Maca is the main ingredient in many male sexual enhancement supplements. It has been used as an aphrodisiac for millennia in Peru. It has demonstrated its ability to increase sexual desire, in studies, but it has not been linked to increasing testosterone. Some unknown factor has been the culprit for raising sexual desire.

Studies have shown a higher rate of male fertility. Maca may help increase sperm production.

Maca may help reduce prostate size in men. Larger prostrates pose problems for men when passing urine. A bulging prostate surrounds the urine tube and presents an obstacle for a proper flow. Maca is high in glucosinolates which are associated with a lower risk of prostate cancer

The immune system    Maca acts as an adaptogen. A Russian scientist came up with this term while studying plant medicines. Basically, adaptogens are plants (maca included) that help your body build up its resistance power against pathogens. Adaptogens are able to adapt to external conditions when challenged.

They work alongside your body’s natural rhythm cycle to help rebuild a weak immune system, re-mineralize your body, and increase your energy and endurance. Scientists and doctors conclude that maca is one of the best ways of regulating your endocrine system. This is a collection of glands that regulate your metabolism and hormones.

Your endocrine system can regulate your organs through your glands with internal secretion. This secretion passes through your blood to your body’s tissues. Your pituitary gland (home of growth hormone), hypothalamus, and adrenal glands are just some of the glands in your endocrine system.

Maca also provides your body with vitamins and minerals. Your body is able to absorb nutrition better by extracting it from whole food sources. Multi-vitamins are not easily absorbed into your system. Vitamins help steer away from the threat of common illness transmitted by nasty microorganisms.

  • 2x as much calcium as milk
  • 3x as much vitamin C as an orange
  • 5x as much iron as spinach

Assists in weight loss Maca’s stimulating effects help with weight loss. It provides a boost of energy that encourages physical activity and provides more motivation for working out. Do you know who struggles with getting up and going? Suggest some maca. By the way… this wonderful superfood contains almost no calories and will not disturb your diet.

Skincare     Maca can help balance testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. Hormonal imbalances often materialize as fatigue, flushing or sweating which can wreak havoc with your skin’s appearance. Skin imperfections are usually a result of an internal imbalance of some sort.

Maca can offer you protection from the sun; however, it is not to be used as a sunscreen replacement. Maca extract may add some additional protection against UV radiation.

Acne is often a result of angry hormones. You can use a topical treatment of maca on your skin to clear up blemishes. Just start with smaller doses. If you come on too strong, you may worsen the situation.

Useful for menopause A natural decline in estrogen often leads to a range of unpleasant emotions. Hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood swings, sleep problems, and general irritability. Maca may help alleviate these symptoms.

Maca is useful in regulating and balancing hormones. It can help raise or lower hormonal levels based on the body’s needs.

Mood booster Nothing sucks more, in my opinion, than a feeling of melancholy. I suffered for years from a roller coaster of emotions. Finding natural whole-foods that have an ability to clear away the blues has been a godsend. So many people suffer every day from feelings of irritability, and you owe it to yourself to try some of these natural mood elevators.

Maca is one of these foods. It has been associated with the ability to reduce anxiety and depression. Maca helps lift one’s overall sense of well-being and induce a positive state of mind. This is probably one of the reasons it has an aphrodisiac effect on many people.

Peruvians use it for learning and memory School children in Peru have been using maca for ages to enhance their learning and memory capabilities. Maca may be able to improve brain function and reinforce memory function.

Maca has a helpful effect on your nervous system. Its ability to improve the transmission of nerve impulses within your central nervous system enables you to hone in your concentration powers and strengthen your learning capacity.

Athletes love it Maca is recommended for endurance sports. It can provide your body with more energy and allow you to improve your performance results. It can quickly regenerate your body after strenuous workouts and help reduce stress.

Maca is also great for bodybuilders. It contains essential branched amino acids. It may prevent the loss of muscle mass and is very beneficial in burning unwanted fat reserves. With time, maca may help improve your overall physical appearance. It is highly suitable for training and is often used before and after workout sessions.

Maca is a safe stimulant and is not considered doping by any means.

Good for diabetes Maca may aid in insulin distribution by making your cells more sensitive to the effects of insulin. For those that don’t know… insulin is a hormone created by your pancreas. Before being diabetic, I thought it was a drug used to help those poor souls born with diabetes, and I knew that they could die without it.

The fiber in maca may also slow your digestion down and allow for more glucose absorption. Its ability to increase energy and endurance for exercise, or providing motivation to get your daily chores done, is good for diabetics. An exercise regimen is a necessity for diabetics desiring to control their sugars.

What is Black Maca?

Each color of maca root offers different benefits. It is advised that you do your research and choose the maca that is best suited to meet your needs. Black maca is sometimes thought of as men’s maca; however, women may also benefit from black maca. Women are much more into fitness in modern times and often are involved in the same sporting activities as men. Maca, by the way, does not contain any hormones. It behaves like a supplement and able to stimulate your body to achieve healthy hormone levels.

How to Use Maca

Maca is available in powder, capsule, or in a liquid form. The optimum dose has not been established yet, but people commonly use between 1.5 to 5 grams per day. A teaspoon is a little over 4 grams. Children can safely use maca in smaller amounts (half a teaspoon).

For faster absorption, it is best that you take on an empty stomach, 15 minutes before you eat your breakfast.

You can add maca to a smoothy or sprinkle it over some fruit. I like to add it to a green tea concoction that also includes amla and triphala powder, some ginger root and some sort of natural sweetener like dates. (triphala is extremely bitter). I am serious when it comes to boosting my immune system. COVID and other nasty invaders are a continual threat to my livelihood. Why not arm yourself with gifts from nature.

You can use maca externally as well. Use on your wounds or burns for faster healing.

Are there Any Side-effects?

Maca is considered safe for most people. Pregnant women, as always, should proceed with caution and consult with a physician before using. The upside for using during pregnancy, maca may act as an alternate for prenatal vitamins, and help rebalance hormones, especially during the first trimester… but yea, check with the doc.

There is some concern it could raise testosterone levels in expectant mothers. Some say, that because of its near pharmaceutical like qualities, it is not recommended to use during pregnancy and lactation.

Maca may give you a case of the jitters at first. Go easy on it to allow your body time to adjust.

One more thing… If you have thyroid issues… steer clear of maca. (or at least proceed with caution)

Why You Should Stay Far Away from Chinese Maca

First of all, maca is from the high altitudes of Peru and is perfectly suited in that growing environment. I have nothing against the people of China, but their government cuts corners when it comes to product safety. The Chinese are creating synthetic maca and selling it as real maca. You should always stay clear of fake food. It is just not meant for your body. Synthetic maca can not possibly be of any benefit to your health.

The Chinese also grow maca, but China is one of the most polluted countries in the world. The Chinese own Ministry of Environment states that 19.4 % of the arable land is contaminated. 82.8 % percent of Chinese food products exceed heavy metal limits. 60% of the groundwater in China is undrinkable.

Chinese are also into GMOs. Peru does not allow GMOs in their country. So you really want Peruvian maca, and preferably from the Junin Provence.

Where can you buy Maca?

You can find it at health food stores, but the easiest way is right here… online. You don’t have to put a mask on and drive to the store. Just click away on one of the featured products, right below, and they will bring it right to your doorstep. Don’t you love the modern world!

The Maca Team

The Maca Team is a family run business located near the Great Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. They only choose the best organically grown maca. They have developed ongoing relationships with local farmers in the ancestral home of maca… the Junin Provence of Peru.

The farmers who work with the Maca Team use traditional farming methods. After harvesting maca, they let the land rest for ten long years in between crops. Most products are delivered into the hands of consumers within 3 to 4 months after being produced.

The Maca Team is meticulous in preserving the potency of their maca. They use a foil-lined double-sealed opaque bag for powdered maca, safely sealed amber jars for all capsules, and amber jars for extracts. Why go to all this trouble? This keeps sunlight, oxygen, and humidity from stealing away all of maca’s potency and ensuring maximum efficiency.

The Maca Team rigorously tests their maca. Each of their products must pass a strict certificate of analysis. Then their products undergo additional testing to confirm the absence of any pesticides or heavy metals.

The Maca Team is generous with its farmers by paying above-market prices for maca. The Maca Team works on smaller margins to keep the price fair for consumers.

The Maca Team state that they offer the most complete and transparent information online. Their articles on maca are based on scientific research whenever possible. They continually work to maintain an accurate and up to date website.

The Maca Team believes in

  • assuring product freshness and high quality
  • using non-GMO products
  • offering only organic
  • fair trade practices
  • fast shipping
  • fair prices
  • friendly and prompt service
  • exceptional support in answering any questions

The Maca Team is always looking for unique ways to bring maca into your home. This can be anything from recipes to new product mixes to sponsorships of athletes. They are open to any feedback to enable them to serve the public better.

The Maca Team offers a wide variety of Maca. They have Powders, capsules, and extracts. They offer red maca, black maca, yellow maca, and a tricolor maca. There are recipes and many healthy tips concerning maca.

Final Thoughts

Maca is a valuable source of protein. It contains numerous vitamins and minerals with some in generous amounts. 20 amino acids are also present, and it also contains plant sterols, tannins, saponins, terpenoids, and fiber. Maca is a great coffee substitute. Try some when you get up in the morning.

Balancing hormones get more and more important as you age. Maca is good to have around the house as you race towards your golden years… or your 40s… It is a wonderful aphrodisiac and good for prostate health. There is no reason to feel blue when you can elevate your mood naturally. Maca may also reduce diastolic blood pressure and can fight free radicals.

Research is still in its early stages, so more will be revealed. Keep in mind… the Peruvians have valued Maca since the days of the Roman Empire... there must be the reason for that. So, if you are looking to improve your health in the ways listed in this post, It won’t break your bank to try some maca root today

To your Health

Many Blessings, Brian

I am making no claims that maca will cure any condition.  It is food. Food is able to help the body in many ways by offering your body nutrition.  Proper nutrition has the ability to turn back cellular damage in many people.  Everyone’s body reacts differently to natural foods, as it also does when given medication by doctors.  There is a whole lot more going on behind the scenes, that we as people, can not possibly know.

What are the Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar?

What are the Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar?

It has antibacterial properties ACV can help prevent skin infections, in theory, diluted apple cider vinegar is helpful with acne. You need to use a high-quality apple cider vinegar, like Braggs. Your ACV should have a cloudy like sediment in the bottom of the bottle. This is called the mother. It is chocked full of yeast and bacteria formed during the fermentation process. The mother is loaded with probiotics (healthy bacteria). Probiotics can help inhibit nasty bacteria like E.coli.

May help lower your blood sugar I can verify this to be true. I am diabetic. If I get reading, higher than normal, I can drink 2 teaspoons of Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar, diluted with water, and my drop blood sugar will drop back into its normal range. It works better than any of the supplements that are recommended for diabetes. I have tried many of these recommended supplements and they have done nothing except drain my wallet.

Nothing works better, in my experience than a low-fat whole-food plant-based diet to combat diabetes, but if you eat something that has caused a spike in your blood sugar level, try some premium apple cider vinegar to bring it back down to earth. Research shows that it can improve insulin sensitivity during a high carb meal by 19 to 31 percent.

Reduced heart risks ACV may improve your heart health. Studies done in animals have shown lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Apple cider vinegar is high in Alpha-lipoic acid which may account for its helpful effect on your blood pressure.

May aids in weight loss Vinegar may help you lose weight by helping you feel full. This could slow down your food intake and eventually reduce belly fat and help you lose weight.

Promotes healthy skin Apple cider vinegar is a common remedy for eczema. Since your skin is highly acidic, ACV could help rebalance your pH level and add a protective barrier for your skin.

How is it Made?

Add yeast to a bunch of apples, and let it sit there for about 30 days, for it to do its thing. Yeast will turn the sugar in the apples into alcohol. Now you are ready to add a bacterial culture, called the mother of vinegar, to induce a second fermentation process. This will convert the alcohol into acetic acid.

Acetic acid is beneficial for your body. It may help reduce inflammation, lower your blood pressure, and help control blood sugar. It has an alkaline effect on your body, which helps the machine run more smoothly.

How to use ACV

Drinking apple cider vinegar straight from the bottle is highly not recommended. Dilute with at least 8 ounces of water before gulping it down. You don’t want to damage the enamel on your teeth. Use a sippy straw, if you would like to further protect your choppers. When using ACV as topical, you should also dilute the vinegar.

What to Look for When Buying ACV?

Only buy apple cider vinegar that is unfiltered and unpasteurized. This means it still contains the mother. The mother contains all the healthy bacteria that are good for your gut. You want to buy a bottle that has cloudy debris floating around on the bottom of the jar. This is the mother. People that don’t know any better, see the cloudy mess and think the vinegar has gone bad. Nope. This is what you want to buy.

Where can you Buy it?

You can find in most supermarkets, health food stores or you name it. Apple cider vinegar is popular. Finding healthier versions may be harder to find. Bragg’s apple cider vinegar is what I use.

Possible Side-effects

You don’t want to overuse apple cider vinegar. It could have some negative effects. Stick to 1 to 2 tablespoons a day, diluted with water.

  • Damaged tooth enamel… rinse your mouth with water after drinking or use a straw
  • tissue damage
  • low blood sugar
  • headaches and nausea … I have not suffered any of these
  • bone loss
  • acne
  • gastrointestinal problems
  • decreased mineral levels

If you have type II diabetes, it is a useful tool against controlling your blood sugars. It may drop blood sugar too low in nondiabetics, so be careful. It helps me immensely in keeping my sugars in line. It is also very useful as a probiotic which is excellent in the fighting off bacteria and viral infections.

What has helped me the most, in regard to my health, is switching to a plant-based diet. I can not stress that enough. I am all on board. Apple cider vinegar provides another tool, for your tool kit, in search of optimum health. If anything, it is a healthier option for a salad topping. Thanks for reading. To your health.

Many blessings, Brian

I am making no claims (except in my own testimonial for the effects on my blood sugar) that apple cider vinegar will cure or heal anything. It is basically fermented nature in a bottle.

Raw Honey vs Regular Honey

Honey is so awesome! Isn’t it? Who doesn’t like to grab a bottle of honey and squeeze the liquid gold down one’s throat? Do you know what the difference is between raw honey vs regular honey (commercial honey)?

Raw honey

  • the crude form that is extracted from honeycomb cells
  • commonly contains bee pollen and propolis (bee glue)… which enhances health
  • can contain bee parts like legs, wings, and hunks of wax. This will be strained out before bottling.
  • can’t be heated above 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • not filtered or pasteurized
  • free from additives

Commercial honey or regular honey

  • heavily processed
  • may be chemically refined
  • undergoes filtering and processing which eliminates phytonutrients, pollen and propolis.
  • turns honey into a sparkling clear golden syrup.
  • pasteurized and filtered… it may also contain additives

How Long Have Humans Consumed Honey?

Honey has been used by civilized man as far back as 8000 years. This is about as far as any documentation can support the use of honey. Honey has been used in burial sites as far back as 5500 years ago.

Apes eat honey. It is safe to say mankind has been robbing bees blind for as far back as you can go in the dawn of time.

What is the Nutrition Content of Raw Honey?

Honey may differ nutritionally across the globe. There are many factors to consider. Various environmental factors come into play. What kind of flowering plants are available? What is the climate like? What kind of bees live there? How large are the populations of bees? How spread out are they?

Honey, in its natural form, contains antioxidants, phytonutrients, protein, vitamins, minerals, Sugar (17g), carbohydrates (17g) and amino acids. A tablespoon of honey contains 64 calories. Honey is also a good source of potassium (11g).

What Benefits does Raw Honey Offer?

Fights the effects of allergies. Every spring, summer, and fall, plants release pollen. This causes discomfort for many of us. You may find yourself suffering from a stuffed nose, along with sneezing, and watery eyes. It just plain sucks. This is known as a pollen allergy, or better known as hay fever.

Your immune system determines how much you will be affected during the peak pollen season. What better way to fight it than to fuel your immune system with the very same pollen. Bees are your solution to survive the hay fever season. Their golden nectar is created by the same flowers in your neighborhood. This is why you hear about the importance of eating local honey. It is not so much about supporting local merchants, even though there is nothing wrong with that. It is about you. Your health. Honey is an insurance plan against hay fever because it is made from the same flowers that cause you grief during hay fever season.

You develop immunity when consuming local honey. Research has demonstrated honey’s ability to keep symptoms of hay fever at bay. Honey’s ability to stop allergies in their tracks is based on the concept of immunotherapy.

Healthy weight management Can raw honey help people with weight problems? There’s been research performed at San Diego State that presents evidence that replacing sugar with raw honey can do just that. Honey is more than just sugar as it contains minerals and small amounts of protein. It offers a lot more than simple sugars which tend to spike your blood sugar.

Studies have shown that raw honey may actually help lower blood sugar. Diabetics need to use in moderation. It is suggested that you test your blood sugar after consumption to see what kind of effect it has on your blood sugar if you’re diabetic. Raw honey may also help suppress your appetite

Natural energy source It’s a well-known fact that certain food has the ability to boost your energy. Marathon runners are famous for slamming pancakes and other carbs before their grueling run.

Raw honey is the perfect running fuel-supplying your body with vitamins, minerals, protein, and pollen. It is one of your best choices of carbohydrates before exercising. It offers the same benefits as glucose (which is used in energy bars… and I doubt that these are really good for you). It offers a healthy energy boost, the way nature intended. Raw honey is also good after exercising for recovery.

Better sleep Raw honey promotes better sleep in two ways. Honey helps stock your liver’s glycerin supply. Loading your liver up with glycerin helps prevent your brain from going into crisis mode in search of fuel, which can wake you up in the middle of the night, and cause a disruption in your sleep pattern.

Raw honey also encourages the release of melatonin from your brain by creating a spike in your insulin levels. This, in turn, prompts the release of tryptophan. Your tryptophan then converts to serotonin and finally, it becomes melatonin.

Melatonin is also able to boost your immunity by helping to rebuild tissue in periods of rest. Poor sleeping patterns increase the risk for various health-related problems like hypertension, type II diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

Excellent wound treatment Let’s have some fun with healing your wounds. Time to spread the sticky goo (honey) on your cuts and place a bandage over it to allow time for the healing effect to occur. Numerous studies done by Peter Charles Molan, at the University of Waikato, in New Zealand, have shown honey’s naturally antibacterial and healing effects. You can also apply this technique to burns. Avoid changing out for 24 to 48 hours on burns for the best effect. This sounds crazy, right. Using honey for burns and wounds. It has to be better for you than some chemicals. Right?

Potent source of antioxidants Raw honey also boosts the immune system in another way. Raw honey contains phytochemicals, flavonoids and ascorbic acid, which has an antioxidant effect on your body. It also helps reduce oxidative stress caused by free-radical damage. Oxidative stress has been linked to cancer and other chronic health situations. Pasteurization of honey reduces the antioxidant effect. Studies have shown that heating up foods reduces the number of antioxidants.

Can I say Diarrhea? ‘Nobody likes to admit they have diarrhea. You really can’t stray too far from your home in one of these moments. Raw honey may offer a solution. Always good to have around the house. Mix a teaspoon with some liquid. Tea is always a good choice. Drink it down. This should aid in a quicker recovery and have a soothing effect on your digestion. Just don’t overdo it. Your condition may worsen if you do.

Antibacterial activity. Honey is a natural antibacterial promoter. It contains hydrogen peroxide (believe it or not!) in small amounts. It also has glucose oxidase and has a low pH level. What this means, it can help eliminate harmful bacteria and fungi. Because of its unique chemical compound, it will not allow yeast and harmful bacteria to grow.

Cough remedy  Grandmas across the globe (at least in Western culture) have given children hot toddies for sore throats. You know… a little whiskey… honey… and lemon juice with hot water. I don’t know if the whiskey is necessary… go ahead if you want… but raw honey can soothe your poor throat.

Many cough medicines are not safe for children, so honey is a good alternative. Just take a nice heaping teaspoon and coat your throat with this delicious swill. Don’t swallow any liquids for about 20 minutes to allow the magic to happen.

Diabetic ally     Believe it or not, raw honey may be good in the diabetic world. It may help prevent and help treat type II diabetes.

Studies were done in Dubai concerning honey and diabetes. Raw honey was able to cause a lower elevation of blood glucose levels in diabetics compared to dextrose (corn syrup) and sucrose (table sugar). Raw honey has been shown to help increase insulin and decrease the risk of hyperglycemia.

Some suggest coupling raw honey with cinnamon to help counteract possible glucose elevation when consuming honey. It would be wise for diabetics to monitor blood sugar levels when using honey, to see how your blood reacts Consume a little at a time and see how it influences your blood sugar levels.

I have been able to use it in moderation, without spiking. What spikes my blood is consuming too much plant-based fat (I gave up eating meat to treat diabetes) or eating too much protein in one meal. Everyone’s body reacts differently to different foods. You just have to keep a food log and find out what works best for you.

How is honey made? Honey, sweet and delicious, is made by bees, of course. Bees buzz around various flowering plants and steal nectar (a sugary liquid). Inside the bees, enzyme activity changes the chemical composition of the nectar. They zoom on back to their hive and regurgitate the liquid nectar inside another bee’s mouth. EWWW! I hope that doesn’t ruin your appetite for honey. Maybe not. Honey is so delicious.

Now back at the hive. The liquid nectar is placed into a honeycomb. The next step… get the water out of the nectar. Bees speed up the process, by fanning their little wings, to evaporate the water out of the honey. As the saying goes, “busy as a bee”.

What type of sugar is in honey? Honey is mainly fructose but also contains glucose and sucrose. Honey is also 17% water.

Does raw honey go bad? No. Would you believe honey was discovered in tombs of Egyptian pharaohs and was still edible? I am talking about honey that is 3000 years old! What happens in your home, after a while, your honey will begin to crystallize. Just place your honey near a heat source (not if your honey is encased in plastic, of course). Or, place in warm water and it will slowly return to its normal form.

Where can I buy it? Raw honey is easier and easier to find. Natural food stores usually supply it. Farmers markets. Peddler’s malls in my city always have a booth. These are good sources for local honey. Again. Local honey is ideal in protection against pollen allergies. Even supermarkets carry raw honey these days, but probably not local honey. At least I haven’t seen it there.

Can you cook with raw honey? Cooking honey or excess heat destroys the natural healing and healthy properties residing in raw honey. If you want the benefits of raw honey, don’t do it. When drinking tea with honey, please let the tea cool down enough so it doesn’t spoil the nutritional benefits. 95 Degrees Fahrenheit is too hot for raw honey. Also, don’t store your honey to close to your stove.

Where should I store it? In your pantry, preferable at 50 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, don’t store it in your fridge. I actually had to do that recently in a war against ants. Maggie’s farm took care of those invading critters. Don’t keep it near any heat source.

Raw Honey Uses

Improves digestion Use one to two teaspoons, a day, to keep indigestion at bay. It is known to counteract indigestion, and honey will not ferment in your stomach.

Relieves Nausea   Feeling nauseous? Try combining raw honey, ginger root, lemon juice, and filtered water. Use your little ninja blender thingie (a must for healthy kitchens). Drink it down. Gulp!

Acne Treatment    This sounds like fun. Spread the sticky mess on your fingers and spread it over any area on your face infected with acne. Spread on gently, and let it sit a bit.

Improves circulation Using raw honey daily may improve the circulation of your blood, lower cholesterol, and help your brain function optimally. Of course, lay off the bacon!!!

Prebiotic support    Honey is full of prebiotics. The illness usually starts in your digestive tract, so developing healthy cultures in your stomach is ideal for optimum health.

Shampoo and Hair treatment Honey as shampoo? People are doing it. Take a spoonful of raw honey and add it to five cups of water. Apply it to your hair and let it soak in. After some time, rinse, dry, and style as usual. This works great for dry hair and will help restore your hair’s luster.

Eczema relief    Use raw honey and equal parts cinnamon on affected areas for relief.

Sunburn remedy    So you stayed out in the sun a little too long. Try taking 1 teaspoon of raw honey, a teaspoon of olive oil, and a quarter teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix it up. Put it on the affected area for 10 minutes before removal. Rinse with tepid water.

Are There Any Risks or Side-effects?

Okay. The most important thing to know about honey consumption is… do not feed children under the age of 12 months, raw honey. Never… ever… The reason… RAW HONEY IS A POTENTIAL SOURCE OF BOTULISM. Babies have not had time to develop the defense to fight off the spores in their digestive systems.

Anyone who is allergic to bees should avoid honey. If allergic to celery, avoid it. Weird. If you have a compromised immune system from chemo or radiation therapy consult with your doctor first. However, studies performed at the Mayo Clinic, demonstrated that 2 teaspoons of raw honey a day may help with low white blood cell count.

Eat in moderation.   Don’t binge on honey. Mild intoxication effects may include weakness, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. Heating at high temps can also produce hydroxymethyl furfuraldehyde (HMF). This is a known carcinogenic. It kind of defeats the purpose of raw honey, heating it up, that is.

If you want to sweeten something up, raw honey is an awesome choice. You can also use it in homemade energy drinks using hot water, 1 to 2 teaspoons of raw honey, an inch of ginger root, and quarter teaspoon of cardamon and turmeric. You will need to blend it to chop up the ginger.

Raw honey is in its natural form, as nature intended it. Whole-natural food is the best gift to offer your body. It is unaltered and not pasteurized, so no heat or hand of man could alter its natural goodness. Raw honey boosts your immune system providing protein, vitamins, minerals, and disease-fighting flavonoids. It has been scientifically proven to help with sleep problems, allergies, diabetes, wound healing, and sore throats. Raw honey is an excellent choice for pre and post workouts.

Look for a local beekeeper if possible. Local raw honey is your best choice when in the market for honey. Try avoiding processed sugar as much as you can. Dates are also a good sugar substitute in recipes and smoothies. They are also in a whole food form with other ingredients besides straight sugar.

Thanks for reading. To your health!

Many blessings, Brian.

What is Triphala Good For?

You may be wondering, what is Triphala Good For? Triphala has many uses as a nutritional supplement. If I were to give a quick summary, Triphala is a powerful herbal remedy used in Ayurvedic medicine. It is used in disease prevention, as an immune system builder and to treat numerous ailments and conditions.

Triphala is a holistic health remedy(little-known outside of India).  It has been as a staple in Indian Ayurvedic Medicine for over millennia.  It is becoming increasingly popular within the global community.

Triphala is Actually Made from 3 Indian Fruits

Triphala literally means three fruits. It is made up of 3 popular Indian Fruits: Amla, Haritaki, and Bibhitaki. These fruits have exhibited powerful health-benefiting effects on their own, but something wonderful happens when you combine them in a Triphala formulation. Together, they enhance the healing effect of exponentially.

There is an old saying in India “if a vaidya (practitioner of Ayurvedic medicine) knows how to use Triphala properly, he can heal any disease”. That is a powerful statement. There must be a reason they hold Triphala to such high regard in India.

AMLA      The superstar in Triphala is Amla.  Amla trees grow wild in India and are cultivated with care.  Amla has vitamin C of 20 oranges. It has a plethora of benefits. It contains an overabundance of antioxidants. Way more than any other fruit... not even close. It is used both internally and externally.   Diabetics are reporting lower A1Cs when using Amla. I can offer my own testimonial in regard to lower blood sugar readings. Check out my post on amla which goes into great detail about its health-giving benefits.  Follow this link.

HARITAKI, is also known as Chebulic Myrobalan. This fruit is found on trees inside Indian Forests and also cultivated for its wonderful fruit. In Sanskrit, Haritaki means that which effectively removes the diseases… I’m not making this up!

This incredible fruit is known to promote fearlessness. Some say it is a brain feeder. Leading to a heightened sense of awareness. It is associated with wisdom, and it is also great for your nervous system.

One of the main uses of Haritaki is to promote regularity in your number 2. If you are seeking a gentle laxative and healthy digestive support, you will find this in Haritaki… and even more so when part of a  Triphala mixture.  It has an awesome cleansing effect in your intestinal system and your urinary tract.

BIBHITAKI   Another name for Bibhitaki is Belleric Myrobalan. In Sanskrit, Bibhitaki translates to “the fruit takes away the fear of the disease… sounds like there is need for this right now, across the globe.

This fruit tree is common in India and Southeast Asia. It can grow up to 60 feet tall. The fruit is used commercially for tanning leather and for medicinal purposes. It is best to use mature dried fruit for the best results.

Bibhitaki has been known to help manage glucose levels. This is good news for diabetics. Fat cells need to mature so insulin can store more glucose in them. The more glucose your body can store, the lower your glucose reading.

As your fat cells mature, they produce adiponectin. This is a protein that has developed a reputation as a friend of insulin. This protein helps your body respond to insulin better. Bibhitaki is able to help your fat cells mature and helps protect your liver.

Bibhitaki also acts as a gentle laxative. It is also beneficial for your upper respiratory tract. (good news for COVID patients) Anything beneficial to your lungs is paramount for your health. Breathing is everything. This amazing fruit is also excellent for your overall eye health.

What are the Benefits of Triphala?

IMMUNE SYSTEM SUPPORT     Triphala contains a healthy dose of antioxidant properties that help protect your body from free radical damage. It also helps with oxidative stress, and it has a high level of vitamin C.

DIGESTIVE HEALTH      One of the most popular uses of Triphala is for ailments of the stomach. It behaves like a gentle laxative easing out waste slowly and smoothly. Not like some colon cleaning supplements which explode waste out of your body in a sense of urgency. If you are out and about, you may find yourself in a pickle.

It helps with the symptoms of constipation, lessening abdominal pain, and increases the frequency of bowel movements. Not a pleasant topic, for sure, but being stuffed up is not fun.

Triphala also promotes an environment for healthy bacteria (probiotics) and aids in their growth. It helps clean out your intestines and is a good natural remedy for irritable bowel syndrome.

While we are discussing this area of your body, Triphala helps decrease the severity of ulcers. Testing on animals has demonstrated this to be true. It also helps restore healthy enzyme activity in your stomach.

HEALTHY SKIN      For healthy skin, use Triphala topically. Amla itself is used as a topical often in India (and also as a hair remedy). It has many anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and it may heal certain skin disorders.

One study has demonstrated Triphala helping to protect skin cells. It may also help build skin protein and help retain moisture in your skin. You may also notice an increase in collagen production. Reductions of bacteria on your skin and faster healing wounds are possible.

ARTHRITIS AND GOUT    Triphala has many antioxidant properties, and since arthritis is a disease of inflammation, it can certainly be of service for this painful condition. It may also halt the breakdown of your bone and cartilage.

It may reduce symptoms of gout and help lower your uric acid levels.

TYPE 2 DIABETES     Some studies have suggested that Triphala may help lower blood sugars. A study was done with non-insulin-dependent patients of diabetes.  Each patient received 5 grams of Triphala a day, for 45 days. They showed significantly lower numbers with their glucose readings.

Mastering Diabetes dot org suggests followers supplement their diet with amla as part of their program for reducing diabetes. Amla is the main component of Triphala formulations. They have a large community of people successfully lowering A1C levels by following their guidelines. I have also used these same techniques to improve my health (drastically). I am not, in any way, involved financially with them, but I highly recommend them, so if you have diabetes (any type), please check them out. Their methods are quite revolutionary and it involves a lot more than just supplementing with amla or Triphala for that matter, but amla and/or Triphala is an excellent weapon against high blood sugar levels.

PROTECT AGAINST CERTAIN CANCERS   Triphala has been shown to be effective in the war against cancer. It may help inhibit the growth of lymphoma as well as stomach and pancreatic cancer. It may also induce pancreatic cancer cell death. The high levels of gallic acid and polyphenols in Triphala may be the reason for its excellent cancer-fighting abilities.

MAY PROTECT AGAINST DENTAL DISEASE    Triphala may benefit dental care in a couple of ways. It may help prevent the formation of plaque on your teeth. Gum inflammation may be reduced, as well as bacterial growth inside your mouth.

MAY SUPPORT WEIGHT LOSS     You may experience a surge in your energy level and a reduction in your body fat… if you have some… most people over 30 starts to accumulate fat in these days of sedentary lifestyles. Over time, using Triphala, you may see a reduction in your weight…. other factors considered, of course.

What is Ayurvedic Medicine?

Ayurvedic Medicine is one of the world’s oldest medical systems, and it is the oldest continuing health system on the planet. Its origins, in India, go back 3000 years, or maybe as far back as 10,000 years in the South of India with the Tamil Siddhas.

This ancient medicinal system can help restore yourself back to balance, and vibrant health, and well-being. It is good for all sorts of things like skincare, hair health, immune system support, cardiovascular health, and digestive support  An Ayurvedic doctor can help you pinpoint your imbalances and help you understand your health.

Ayurvedic practitioners customize each herbal formulation to meet the needs of the individual. Herbs are rarely used in isolation in Ayurvedic medicine. They also recommend adding herbs to every meal.

A major tenant of Ayuvedic theory is that disease is most likely to take your body hostage when your digestion is compromised. Triphala is most often used as a remedy for gastrointestinal disorders. It has been shown to help with bloating, chronic constipation, and sluggish digestion.

A Triphala formulation challenges modern scientific investigative methods. This is because the unique compounds found in this fruit trifecta take on different attributes when combined together. Ayurvedic practitioners have known this for a thousand years. You can not just go by the research done on each individual fruit. You can’t discount the oldest medicinal methods known to mankind.

The downside… no license is required to practitioners… there is no significant regulation for an Ayurvedic practice. Do your due diligence before taking any dietary supplement. Investigate. Research. Are there any known side-effects? How much of a dose can you take? Are you on any medications and possible interactions with any supplements?

This is pretty much the same as any holistic practice. Natural supplements are not likely to hurt you if they have been benefiting others for years. Ayurvedic medicine has thousands of years of finding out what works. Modern medicine always tries to control the narrative and try to steer the public away from natural remedies. They are also so in love with Big Pharma.

What lifestyle changes work in synergy with Triphala?

To make the most of the detoxification process and receive the biggest benefit from Triphala, it would be most effective if you change other aspects of your lifestyle. You can eat tons of healthy fruits and vegetables, but if you continue to load up on bad food choices, alongside of healthier ones, you are still going to run head-on into some health issues.

First and foremost, you should avoid building up toxins in your body in the first place. I certainly ate my share of unhealthy food when I was young. Trust me, it all caught up to me. And later on,  I was eating a lot of produce alongside eating lots of fatty meats and eggs.

Avoid preservatives… at all costs. Stop and take some time to read your labels if you truly want a healthier body. (Don’t you really want to know what’s inside your food?)  Processed foods are overloaded with table salt and all sorts of unpronounceable names. it amazes me how much trust as a society that we place in the hands of food manufacturers. They are chasing dollars like everyone else and don’t care about your health. They really don’t. I refuse to buy anything unnatural. I threw out all of my chemicals a while ago.

It is recommended to eat organic as much as possible. This is one area I have to delve into more. Yes, there are some insecticides and herbicides on a lot of foods. Organic is pricey and not as available, and my diet consists of a lot of produce.

Avoid frozen and canned foods, if possible. I’d rather have fresh, but I will check the ingredients if I buy a can. Tomato sauce is about all I ever buy in a jar or a can. Frozen, outside of peas and corn, are not even considered in my shopping cart.

Avoid exposure to environmental toxins as much as you can.   Work puts some of us in compromising situations. I live in a city with poor air quality. I would love to eventually move to somewhere more remote. Do your due diligence and research microwaves. Water your houseplants with microwaved water and see what happens.

Ayurvedic medicine recommends going to bed by 10 pm for digestive purchases, and try eating your heaviest meal at noon. Personally, I’m a night owl, and I like it like that. I try to eat heavier meals earlier if I can. Slow down while eating and chew more.  Don’t watch television while eating. (again, I fail here too). I like some of my “bad” habits.

What to look for when buying Triphala?

The quality of the fruit would be your first consideration. Find out how where the fruit comes from and how they select their fruits. Are they ripe? Fruit is most effective in its ripe state.. How is the fruit picked? How is it sorted? Do they only choose healthy-looking specimens? Do they use the Vijaya variety of Haritaki? It is the only variety used in the ancient formulas.

Are there any contaminants in the soil or water? Pesticides… herbicides… heavy metals… any environmental toxins?

What kind of testing do they use? What sanitation methods do they employ?

How do they prepare the fruit for processing? What kind of grinders do they use? Are they too powerful and heat up the fruit too much (this can reduce the potency). Are they meticulous in removing foreign materials?

Are their products ISO certified? This is an international organization that sets standards for product quality. Keep in mind, if you want a high-quality Triphala, it will probably cost more.

How to use Triphala

Triphala comes in capsules, powdered form, or liquid. It is best used on an empty stomach or between meals for maximum absorption. It has a bitter taste, so be creative and mix it some raw honey, or blend it in a ninja with some fruit or dates. Just a little so it still absorbs in your belly well.

Potential Side Effects

You may experience diarrhea and some abdominal discomfort if you overdo it. It has not done that to me. My “movements” have come out smoothly and with regularity. Pregnant women should not tamper with it. As usual, if pregnant, consult with your physician. Do not use if you are taking blood thinners. It may interact with your medicine.

Triphala has been around for a very long time in India. They have such a long and rich history of herbal medicinal medicines. Yoga goes back thousands of years, and it is way more than just an exercise routine. There is a science behind yoga that is mind-boggling. I have experienced some unexpected pleasures from yoga. This is the very reason I am now looking more into Ayurvedic medicine. India is a land of amazing wisdom.

I have experienced some immediate results from Triphala. I have been using it for a month now as I write this. I have been using amla, by itself, for over a year. Amla has helped me lower my blood sugar, and Triphala adds additional support. Immediately my bowels have never been smoother. Yea, kind of something no one likes to talk about.

AS far as my immune system, I have a partnership with numerous nutritional sources to help boost my immune system. People with weak immune systems do have to be concerned with COVID, but if you arm your body with the best defense system, you will more than likely come out on top. While on the topic of immune systems, check out my post on algae. I am experiencing stupendous results with Klamath blue-green algae. Take care of your health.

Thanks for reading

Many Blessings,

I am not making any claims that Triphala will cure any disease or ailment. It is not medicine. It is food. Fruit from trees. Triphala is like many of Earth’s fruits, which are known to be beneficial for the health and well-being of the animal kingdom.

Pink Himalayan Salt Benefits: Review

Pink Himalayan Salt benefits you in many ways. Pure Himalayan salt is loaded with 84 minerals and trace elements. Over eons of time, salt in the Himalayan Mountains has developed a crystalline structure under tremendous amounts of pressure. The human body is easily able to absorb the minerals encased inside the crystallized salt. It is able to penetrate your cell wall so you benefit enormously from the salt.

Crystallized salt also provides you with electrolytes and improves communication with your cells. It also hydrates your cells. Table salt does the exact opposite. It dehydrates you and causes many imbalances throughout your body. For more details on the differences in salt follow this link.

Himalayan salt also helps normalize your blood pressure and restore your alkaline-acid balance. The latter is important during these dog days of wearing COVID masks which can have and acid-like effect in your blood.

You may also develop a healthier metabolism, and it may help cleanse your intestines and offer detoxification support.

Original Himalayan Crystal Salt, Product Review

Original Himalayan Crystal Salt is a division of Symphony Natural Health. They offer numerous salt products, but this review is focusing on their pure, high-quality Himalayan crystal salt. Their salt comes in fine, coarse, crystal rocks and bath salts. There are also many other items for sale containing Himalayan salt and items like crystal salt lamps (which are very popular).

How is the Salt Mined?

Let get right down to it. Where is the salt from? How is it mined? These are important if you really want to place the best salt on your table. If you are reading this, you want to know “What is so special about Pink salt?”

I had laid out the details in an earlier post. Click here to see it. The bottom line… table salt is destructive (altered by man)… Crystal salt fuels your body with nutrients. however, there are variations in quality. The tricky part is to find the source of crystal salt that has undergone enough pressure and has had time to develop into a nutritional source of minerals.

The Himalayan Mountains is a special place for salt mining. They are of course the highest mountains (entirely on land… Mauna Kea in Hawaii is the highest… starting deep underwater). Anyway… many, many years ago… what is now the Himalayan Mountains… was the bottom of the ocean. This is how salt got way up into the mountains. Tremendous pressure built these majestic mountains.

This is where you find the best know salt in the world. On the Pakistan side of the Himalayas. Salt runs in veins. To find the really potent salt, it is best to hand mind the salt. Thus, this drives up the price of the best salt.

Original Himalayan Crystal Salt is found in remote foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. It is hand-mined and transported by donkeys down a dirt road. It is cleaned, sorted by hand, and stone-ground with traditional methods to preserve the minerals.

Grocery store Pink salt comes from large mines. They use explosives to blast out the salt. This results in impurities contaminating the salt and it creates dangerous conditions for the workers. It is also a crapshoot finding the quality veins of salt this way. Your grocery store salt may have good salt mixed in with common crystallized rocks salt, which is in which the crystalline structure is not fully developed. (it is still healthier than table salt)

Established Relations with the Local Miners

The workers are treated fairly, never exploited, and paid a decent living wage. Joint partnerships have been set up with the local community. This has created an industry with wages 5 to 10 times higher than normal for their region. It is important for this company to benefit the people of this region and offer the best salt to the rest of the world.

What to look for when buying salt?

  • the amount of trace mineral inside the crystals
  • the ratio of minerals
  • the structure and particle size of the minerals (important for proper cell absorption)
  • how contaminated it is with pollution, additives or chemicals
  • does it have research and the result of those tests

Can back it up with Research

San Francisco Salt Company: Product Review

The San Francisco Salt Company is located in Alameda, California (in the Bay Area). They offer Sherpa Himalayan Salt as well as many flavored salts. They strive to bring unique flavors from around the world into people’s homes.

Their Salts are Imported

San Francisco Salt Company imports their gourmet food-grade Himalayan Salts straight from the source, the Kherwa Salt Mines. They are situated at the foothills of the Salt Range, about 160km south of Islamabad, Pakistan.

They also mention, when in its natural state, Himalayan Crystal salt is reported to have 84 different minerals. Their suppliers perform the standard TDS testing to ensure the minerals are presented. Below is a testing chart.

Himalayan Salt is 250 million years old. It has formed into its crystalline structure from immense pressure from the formation of the mountain chain. This created an environment for the purest salt in the world. Free from pollutants and contamination. There is no data provided to show how the salt is mined. They need to provide more data to prove if the salt was mined without corrupting the source of the salt. OSHA has inspected it, but doesn’t provide enough information.

Adds Amazing Flavor to Any Dish

  • Your new “go-to-salt”… replace Sherpa Himalayan Salt for any recipe requiring table salt. This is a tasty alternative containing trace minerals.
  • Season to Perfection: It works well as a seasoning for meats, soups, salads, and vegetables
  • Great for Professionals and Home Chefs: You can use it in your salt rubs and brine solutions.
  • Buy with Confidence: The San Francisco Salt Company stands behinds every single product and is confident you will be completely satisfied with the quality.

Different Grain Sizes

Extra-fine (0-0.5 mm) – perfect for salt shakers

Fine (0-1 mm) – for many culinary and health uses (larger than normal table salt)

Coarse (2-3 mm) – use in ceramic mills and salt grinders

NOTE This product is all-natural rock salt and may contain some insoluble mineral deposits. There is no added iodine.

Product: Sherpa Himalayan Salt

Price: 1 lb $6.99, 5 lbs $14.99

Where to Buy: Amazon

Size: 1 lb, 2 lb, 5 lb, 20 lb

Guarantee: Yes

My Rating: 7 out of 10 stars

Himalayan salt has a wonderful flavor and I love adding it to my food. I can’t stand table salt. I never have even considered myself a “salt person” until I discovered Himalayan salt. I actually crave it. Is this on account of the minerals?

I have purchased salt from the Original Himalayan Crystal Salt company. It is lighter in color than other Himalayan salts. I definitely want their larger crystal rocks for my morning sole. They are more expensive, but I like the meticulous care they undergo to provide the highest quality crystal salt. They have more detailed testing to validate the minerals present inside.

The San Francisco Salt Company offers a cheaper alternative for those not willing to shell out “big bucks for salt”. You will still pay more for regular sodium chloride (table salt)… which can be devastating to your health.

They mine their salt from the Pakistan mine known for bringing Himalayan salt to the world. They have undergone some standardized testing and back up their data. Himalayan salt of any quality is better than any other salt. Sea salt has been contaminated. So… if on a budget… at least get started with the San Francisco Salt company or if you want the highest quality, as far as data shows, go with the Original Himalayan Crystal Salt.

The Healing Power of Proper Breathing… Free and for Fun

How Important is it to Breathe Right?

Have you ever considered the healing power of proper breathing?  There are 3 major necessities that you must have to sustain your life. Yes… they are pretty obvious… but most people don’t put too much thought into what’s in the food they eat, or knowing the purity of the water (even bottled), and the majority of us don’t spend a second thinking about how they breathe.

You can survive about 30 days without food and several days without water. You are a goner within 2 minutes without air. We take it for granted… or not… but, wearing COVID masks have more people focused on the air that they breathe.

Breathe is nearer and dearer to you than the most money in the world. It is always with you. If you lose your breath, you lose everything. Controlling your breathing helps you lead a richer life by helping you eliminate waste and maximize your oxygen intake. It also helps relieve anxiety and can calm your mind and improve your mood.

Do You Breathe Properly?

Most people live most of their lives without proper breathing. Unhealthy habitual breathing patterns can create tension and keep your chest from fully expanding. Poor respiratory habits can wreak havoc on your physical, mental, and emotional health. On top of that… VIRUSES AND BACTERIA go bananas when your body is oxygen-deprived. Shallow breathing also is a major culprit to many chronic stress-related conditions.

Look at the people around you. You will notice that many people are only half-breathing. I do this too. My cat is practicing proper breathing as I write this. Animals do this naturally. Maybe we are so smart that we have forgotten how to breathe properly. Humans are always thinking Is this why we are off-track with our breathing patterns?

Posture habits are also a major offender of poor breathing methods. Humans were not designed to sit all day in an office or stay in couch potato mode for six hours a day.

Picture this… you’re at work glued to a PC (or surfing at home)… Your shoulders are rounded forward and you have collapsed your chest and rib cage (and I caught myself doing that writing while this post)… you thrust your neck forward… your torso and back muscles tighten up… your middle back muscles, which are needed for good posture, stretch and get weak… hip flexors tighten and abdominal weaken…this pulls on your lower spine and tightens your lower back… your abdominal weaken and this could lead to an anterior pelvic lift.

After staying in a hunched over position for an extended period of time, your diaphragm is unable to contract well and create a vacuum. Your lungs are unable to expand to full capacity. Your weakened abs can’t push the air back out efficiently. The end result… your oxygen intact is far from optimal.

Without enough oxygen, you put yourself at risk for numerous health problems. Fatigue can develop. Falling asleep at the wheel happens when you are fatigued. This may also put stress on your heart, and lungs.

Stress on your heart and lungs may elevate your body’s cortisol. Elevated cortisol levels can lead to weight gain, mood swings, and sleep deprivation. This leads to your having trouble with decision-making and mental focus.

What are some Common Obstacles to Good Breathing?

  • Stuffed nose or sinuses
  • Tightness in your chest
  • Tight-fitting clothing
  • Full stomach and/or intestinal bloating
  • bad posture
  • excessive nervous tension

What are the Benefits of Better Breathing Practices?

  • Fights fatigue and reduces your need for sleep
  • Relaxes your body and reduces tension
  • Boosts your personal power and ability to handle pressure and stress
  • Amps up your immunity and your body’s natural healing ability
  • Hikes up your mental clarity and concentration
  • Ability to mellow out and master your emotional response
  • Maximizes your verbal delivery by strengthening your voice
  • increases your energy and stamina

The Body-Breathe-Mind Connection

Your breath is joined at “the hip” with your body and mind. Your everlasting thoughts, actions, and emotions experienced have an impact on your breathing. For example, your breathing speeds up when you get excited. Your body’s natural response prior to taking action. Surprise may cause you to inhale sharply. This blasts oxygen to your brain to promote quick thinking.

Most people hold their breath when they concentrate hard. A cat lays completely still as he prepares to pounce on a songbird. The cat’s concentration is so intense that she barely breathe… Children are still in touch with the body-mind connection. If a child noticed an adult breathing irregularly, he would say “what’s wrong?”

This is not taught. It is instinctual. By practicing breathing exercises, you tap into this instinctive knowledge. You will get in touch with how powerfully your breathing impacts your mind and body. You will find the ability to control unhealthy patterns of breathing, thinking, and acting.

Understanding your Breathing

Yea, I know, a basic element of life. But, does anyone really stop to think about the breathing process. Inhalation is automatic, however, most of us don’t inhale fully. As your lungs swoop in air, precious oxygen passes into your body.

Exhalation of air from your lungs expels gaseous waste products like carbon dioxide. Your lungs have a secondary function as an organ of excretion. Exhalation also helps your mind and body adjust to change.

There is a transitional period between inhalation and exhalation called retention. When you inhale and hold your breathe in, the rate of gaseous exchange in your lungs goes up as a result of an increase in pressure. What does this mean? More oxygen is able to pass from your lungs to your bloodstream. Meanwhile… carbon dioxide passes from your blood to your lungs to be exited from your body.

The pause after an out-breath is also called retention. This breathing technique is used in numerous breathing exercises (yoga is chocked-full of these goodies). It has a profound calming effect when employed.

How Your Breathe Works

Every time you inhale, your respiratory system performs its first dutysupplying air to your lungs. The oxygen within the air is absorbed into your bloodstream and precedes to flow to every cell in your body. Your cell would die withing minutes with receiving oxygen.

The secondary function of your respiratory system is cleansing. Each exhale pushes out gaseous waste … sounds gross… right! The breathing process leaves you exposed to the outside environment like no other part of your body. A plethora of pollutants and germs are swirling around the air. It makes little sense when I spot joggers running right next to busy highways… breathing in noxious carbon monoxide. Do your best to breathe in fresh air whenever possible.

Why you should breathe through your nose

Nature, in its innate wisdom, designed your nose as the primary entry point of extracting air from the atmosphere. It acts as a guard dog in the first line of defense. Your nose warns you of impending danger through your sense of smell. It alerts you of dangerous air, rotten food, or bad water.

Your nose is also designed as a filter. It helps halt dust and other particles from entering the delicate lining of your lungs. Your nostrils are lined with microscopic hairs that help cleanse the air before proceeding into your lungs. Mouth breathing does not offer the same benefits. You could end up with a dry mouth, sore throat, or catch a cold if you practice too much mouth breathing. You should only turn to mouth breathing when you have a stuffed nose or to blast air immediately into your lungs when you have pushed yourself to the limit physically, such as running.

Nose breathing also protects your respiratory system by humidifying incoming air, which keeps the mucous membranes of your respiratory passages moist. This creates a second line of defense by capturing more particles on the wet and sticky surface before it can enter your lungs.

Regular nose breathing brings your inhaled air to body temperature. Cold air irritates your respiratory system. Breathing through your nose also helps with your sinuses. Clear sinuses lead to good air circulation and help you avoid headaches.

Why you Should Quit Smoking

I am not out to cure the world of the horrors of smoking, But I feel like I should give it a quick mention since this post is about how to breathe right. Smoking is still legal and 13% of U.S. citizens practice their rights.

Smoking tobacco is harmful to every organ in the body. It is really hard on your respiratory system. My mom stopped smoking in 1994, but not in time. She suffers from COPD.

Breathing exercises will not cure you of smoking, however, they can assist you in your quest to stop. Breathing exercises help cleanse your respiratory system and help you feel rejuvenated. Power breathing exercises can also help you build will power by tapping into the calming effect of deep breathing along with the joy of experiencing deep breathing again.

How to Get Yourself to Breathe Naturally

If you are out of touch with how to breathe naturally or have never really thought about it, you have to retrain or train yourself on how to breathe properly. Here is a simple diaphragmatic breathing exercise to get you started.

  • Lie down flat on your back on the floor. Use a yoga mat or a blanket if you would like. It is okay to lift your legs with a pillow Whatever is comfortable for you.
  • Let your chest expand naturally. Your shoulder blades should touch the floor, and place your hand on your abdomen just below your ribs. Place your other hand on your chest.
  • Begin inhaling slowly. Pay attention to your stomach rising and the pressure pushing on your hand. Keep your hand on your chest still.
  • Now… slowly exhale while tightening your abdominal muscles. Feel the pressure on your hand decrease.

You can practice the above exercise to get used to breathing right, but I suggest exploring some breathing techniques as taught in yoga. A good place to start is long deep breathing. This is basically taught in any meditation class or exercise.

What can long deep breathing do for you? It will calm your mind and even out your emotions. You may reach a state of serenity and peace with practice. You can use long deep breathing in everyday situations to relieve stress and to get a handle on your emotions, think clearly, and act effectively. The slower you breathe, the calmer your mind.

You can do this lying on your back or sitting up straight. (or yoga style) The key… keep your spine straight. Now, inhale deeply and slowly through your nose. Feel as though you are pulling your breath down to your navel center (belly button). As the breathing starts to fill up your lungs, your diaphragm will expand (your belly should push out) A lot of people will do this backward… sucking the gut in. You want to push the belly out for full expansion.

Now keep inhaling all the way up to your lungs as your belly expands like a balloon. When you exhale, let all the air out (slowly). Feel your abdomen push in towards your navel center.

Use your whole lung capacity. Make every inhale and exhale as long and full and complete as possible. The real challenge is to stay with the exercise. Our minds tend to wander or you become so relaxed that you begin to nod out. This is because, when you slow down your breath, you also slow down your mind into a state of deep relaxation.

Note: Keep your abdominal muscles relaxed and let the breath move your abdomen naturally. Your diaphragm should be doing all the work. You can explore yoga if you would like to learn some techniques to help channel the focus of your mind, but try out long deep breathing. You really do feel refreshed after doing it. Below is a video demonstrating long deep breathing.

Remembering to breathe properly is challenging. My mind tends to often wonder. Anytime I can slow down and concentrate on my breathing is a win for my health and well-being. In karate, I use a lot of short bursts of breath. You are moving fast, but breathing is the main focus in all martial arts. In karate, there are also katas designed with long deep breathing to place your self in a meditative state.

Tai Chi is another good option. It is a slow, soft style of martial art that helps you develop chi. Your inner hidden energy. In the toga world, it is called prana. Tai Chi is basically a moving meditation utilizing slow breathing techniques.

Once you begin to practice techniques daily, you will find moments to slow down and get control of your breath. It is an excellent tool for getting control back from runaway emotions.

Covid-19 has presented some oxygen-deprived scenarios for many of us. Wearing a mask may lean more towards acidosis in your bloodstream. Please consider counter-attacking with a good breathing technique. Oxygen is so important for your blood. Check out one of my earlier posts on a yoga breathing technique called breathe-of-fire. It is excellent at purifying your blood.

Take advantage of the world wide web and watch some YouTube videos on the subject. It is much easier to learn breathing techniques with little visual guidance. Breathing meditations provide you with the best natural high. You can alter your mind in a good healthy way without all those awful side effects and consequences… just saying.

Klamath blue green algae review

Blue green algae is an underrated superfood. The best-known source for this amazing nutrient-dense food is Klamath Lake in Oregon. This post is about Klamath Blue Green Algae Reviews. To find more about the benefits of Blue-Green Algae go here…

Before you purchase Blue Green Algae, either by liquid form, powder or capsules, you should have an idea of what is available in the market place. I have chosen 4 companies that focus on offering high-quality algae at competitive prices.

Green Earth Naturals… Crystal Sweet Algae

Crystal Sweet Algae

Green Earth Naturals has been serving the marketplace with quality Klamath Lake Blue-Green Algae since 1993. Their online store went live in 1998. Their website states that not all Klamath Blue Green Algae are the same. Prices vary and algae come in different forms for consumption. It is possible to find a huge difference in prices in the algae market. The reason… it comes down to the processing method used in drying the blue-green algae.

Green Earth Naturals claims that their “Crystal Sweet Algae” is the highest quality Blue Green Algae available in the market place today because of their superior drying method.

What is so special about Crystal Sweet Algae

Crystal Sweet Algae has maintained its original color, a beautiful shade of green and flavor. This is a direct result of the drying process.

You can clearly see sparkling crystals inside the capsules or in the powdered form. It has a natural sweet taste and not bitter like most processed green powders. You can FEEL the energy after consumption (take them first thing in the morning with filtered water). Your body should come fully alive soon after… it does for me. Have you ever juiced? Freshly squeezed juice (any fruit or veggie) makes you feel wonderfully vibrant. You can feel the energy when eating foods in their natural raw state. Algae is food and not made in a lab. It really stimulates your senses.

This daily boost of energy is a direct result of a power-packed superfood providing your daily dose of essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids in an easily absorbable form. Your body easily assimilates this natural food for your optimum health.

What Makes it so Special?

Crystal Sweet Algae has a unique and gentle drying process. Studies performed at Washington State University stated that this is the best drying process used in the algae market. (Other companies usually spray dry or freeze-dry their algae).

This is an advanced procedure exclusive to their harvesters which involves a drying process called Hydro-Dri. It allows the algae to preserve its original potency, keeping its active enzymes and maintaining its natural crystalline structure, which allows your body to process in the way nature intended.

What does this mean? Crystal Sweet Algae is a more potent, bioavailable, and more nutritional dense algae (it’s all about the drying process). This can fuel your body with a full spectrum of nutritional benefits.

Some reported benefits

  • increased energy and endurance
  • better sleep
  • increase in sex drive
  • not as fatigued
  • ability to concentrate has improved
  • wonderful sense of well-being
  • nicer skin
  • immune system boosted (very important)

Do they use fillers?

Nothing is added to Crystal Sweet Algae. When it arrives at your door, you will receive nothing but pure Blue-Green Algae from Klamath Lake. For more information on Klamath Lake Blue-Green Algae go here… You will find no other ingredients added to their algae.

Green Earth Naturals Charges 50% Less

Some companies charge as much as $380 per pound for quality algae. Green Earth Naturals charge up to 50% less. There are many Algae products in the marketplace that charge less, but they use an inferior drying process which destroys the nutrients and enzyme activity.

Green Earth Naturals is working directly with the harvesters with no added middle-men, so they are able to charge 50% less and pass the savings on to you!

What exactly is Hydro Dri?

Hydro-dri is a drying technology that uses a heat transfer process and specified water properties that smoothly remove moisture while keeping the algae in its natural state.

When you place the water over the heating source, infrared energy transfer throughout the water by convection. This creates evaporation. The water is covered with a plastic sheath that acts like a mirror and reflects the infrared energy back into the water.

But when a moist material is set on the plastic membrane, the natural water inside the algae creates a “window” which lets the infrared energy travel through the material. The heat doesn’t recognize the existence of the membrane and directly transfers through the water inside the algae.

Within moments the water in the algae evaporates and the “window” closes up, so the algae is no longer exposed to the heat source.

Green Earth Naturals uses the Hydro-Dri process with a transparent conveyor belt to move the moist algae through. The same kind of “window” is created and closes as soon as the water dissipates out of the algae. The conveyor belt is a poor heat conductor, so once the algae dry, the “window” closes and only allows a minuscule amount of heat to enter the algae.

The end results… a flaked product pretty much in its original natural state. This rapid drying process keeps the algae’s nutrient, color, and flavor intact.

The algae are protected from oxidation because the Hydro-dri drying process kept the temperature of the algae below the temperature of the water circulating below. The algae is exposed to a temperature of 161 degrees Fahrenheit for 3 to 5 minutes.

Hydro-Dri is way better than the freeze-drying and the spraying methods used by their competitors. Freeze drying exposes the algae to temperatures of 86 to 147 degrees Fahrenheit for 24 straight hours. Spray drying exposes the algae to temperature from 302 to 572 degrees Fahrenheit. This could result in a significant amount of nutritional value being destroyed in the process.

The real indicator of the quality is the preservation of the algae’s original color and flavor. Washington State University’s Department of Biological Systems Engineering and Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition stand behind Hydro-Dri technology as being the superior drying method.

POWER ORGANICS/ Klamath Blue-Green Algae

Power Organics is located at the base of majestic Mount Shasta, in beautiful Northern California. There are many wonderful legends surrounding this mystical area. I lived in Redding (just south of Mt. Shasta) for a summer and had such a wonderful experience there. It really is a spectacular region in the United States.

Power Organics became aware of the superfood being harvested from the pristine waters of Upper Klamath Lake in Southern Oregon (not too far away from Shasta). They saw a great opportunity in marketing Klamath algae noted for its amazing health benefits. Power Organics took full advantage of an outstanding health discovery!

History of Power Organics

The founder of Power Organics pioneered open water harvesting in Klamath Lake. This is where you will find the only organic source of AFA (a species of blue-green algae found in Klamath Lake) which is very nutrient-dense. They developed the first freshwater algae filtration system. Power Organics has a six-acre processing facility at Klamath Lake and were the forerunners in selling edible algae.

Power Organics also offers an algae supplement combination. They combine Klamath Blue Green Algae (which is power-packed with nutrients) with 2 other powerful and familiar algae: Spirulina and Chlorella. They search far and wide to add the finest Spirulina and Chlorella to the Klamath Blue-Green Algae. Each type of algae brings its own special benefits to the table… literally! This enzyme enhanced product is called Power 3.

What is the Nutritional Value?

Microalgae are the most nutrient-dense food on the planet. Blue-Green Algae contains a complete spectrum of essential vitamins which is highly unusual for any single food. This should surprise no one since our largest whales thrive on algae. Many life forms on earth rely completely on algae to sustain them.

Blue-Green algae is rich in essential B Vitamins and is home to the highest vegetarian source of vitamin b12 and Beta Carotene. Vitamin b 12 is produced by bacteria found in soil or in the guts of animals; however, the mineral cobalt must be present in the soil to make this happen. Algae do not need soil to produce B12. Vitamin b12 is very important for your health, so this is good news (especially if you are on a plant-based diet).

Did you know that algae is the primary source of your essential fatty acids (EFAs)? Algae is also low in contaminants, pesticides, and heavy metals since it is first on the nutritional ladder.

Two foods come closest to obtaining the optimum balance a complete amino acid profile: chicken eggs and Klamath Blue Green Algae and the jury is still out there regarding the healthiness of eggs. When your amino acid profile is balanced, they enable proper food assimilation and promote harmony in your body.

AFA (B. G. algae) contains 12 vitamins and 27 essential minerals and trace elements. AFA also contains superoxide, RNA, bioflavoids, selenium, catalase, dimutase, and cystine making it one of the best-known sources of naturally occurring antioxidants.

AFA has some of the highest percentages of protein, B12, and chlorophyll on Earth compared to any other food. What is absolutely amazing is its high usable protein (ranging from 50-70%) This is a much greater percentage of the most protein-packed area of any plant or animal. AFA is also way easier to digest than any other protein because of its amino acid profile.

Blue-green algae are the main source of two rare unsaturated fatty acids EPA and DHA. These offer neurological benefits as well as helping lower inflammation.

So basically… this is nutrition in its most elementary form. AFA is loaded with beta-carotene, and B-complex, biologically active vitamins, chlorophyll, fatty acids, enzymes, lipids (fats), amino acids, carbohydrates, minerals and trace minerals, pigments, and other essential growth factors… sounds like a perfect food to me.

How is the Algae Harvested?

Algae reproduce super fast… every 4 days!… 200 million pounds annually. When the algae bloom and reach its peak, it is time to harvest. Algae is not cultivated: It is harvested fresh from the lake, in its wild natural state.

The algae then go through a screening process removing unwanted materials. The algae is inspected for microcystin to make sure it’s at acceptable levels. The AFA is flash frozen and kept in storage at -40 Fahrenheit while waiting for processing.

How Power Organics Dry their Algae

Power Organics uses a low-temperature drying method called Bio-Active Dehydration. This method preserves the natural enzymes and keeps most of the algae’s vital nutrients intact and allowing it to be easily assimilated in your body. Most drying processes kill off vital nutrients.

Their products are thoroughly tested in by reputable independent laboratories to make sure your algae is of the highest quality and safe for consumption. You may request a Certificate of Analysis upon request.

About Klamath Lake

Upper Klamath Lake is a high altitude lake (4140 feet above sea level) located in Southern Oregon. Directly to the Northwest are the Cascade Mountains. An arid sagebrush steppe surrounds the lake from east to south. This helps protect the lake from contaminants because it is far and away from population centers.

Upper Klamath Lake has a surface area of 140 square miles with an average depth of 8 feet. (perfect depth for algae growth) Klamath Lake is fed by 17 mineral-rich rivers. 50,000 tons of mineral-rich silt is deposited in the lake. You see… this region is one of the richest nutrient traps on the planet due to the surrounding 4000 square mile volcanic basin. You just can’t duplicate this scenario in a lab.

Klamath Lake has an amazingly high mineral and trace element concentration on account of a gargantuan volcanic eruption when Mount Mazama blasted off 7700 years ago. Millions of tons of volcanic ash covered the ground all the way up to present-day Canada. The numerous volcanoes in the Pacific Northwest are part of the famous “Ring of Fire” spreading all the way to Asia.

Upper Klamath stays relatively free of heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides. It is also free from adverse bacteria. The lake is graced with 300 days of sunlight yearly. This is an ideal environment for the world’s most potent strain of AFA. The highly alkaline charged water contains more than 60 times the nutrients needed for algae to reach its full potential. AFA can reproduce itself every 20 minutes with the right conditions resulting in a massive abundance of this miracle superfood.

E3Live Has An Eco-Friendly Packaging Choice. There is an Eco-Friendly Packaging choice called Green Cell. It is biodegradable and Earth-friendly. You can choose this option upon request for frozen goods shipped overnight. (Just let then known when you place your order.)

Is AFA available in a powdered form?

E3AFA is simply the powder form of E3Live and doesn’t require refrigeration. E3Live states that their E3AFA is the world’s most nutritional. highest quality power form of AFA. These capsule forms of AFA are useful when traveling, camping or anytime you find keeping E3Live cold becomes too challenging.

What is the Difference Between E3AFA and E3Live?

They are both 100% AFA and harvested out of the pristine waters of Klamath Lake. E3Live is AFA in a frozen/liquid form (requiring continual refrigeration) and is said to be superior to all other forms of AFA. E3Live is the only company to offer AFA in a frozen/liquid form. Their liquid form is the closest you can get to AFA’s natural energizing state and the best way to consume AFA. (seems logical… skipping the heating process avoids nutritional depletion)

E3AFA is the Hydro-dried form of AFA which comes in loose powder or capsule. Their Hydro-Drying methods retain most of the Algae’s potent nutritional and energizing properties. The dry form is recommended as an important back-up when refrigeration is not possible. Both are excellent sources to meet your daily nutrition intake.

How do E3AFA and E3Live Work?

AFA (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) is food… directly from nature and not cultivated. AFA is not a drug or created in a lab. Nature, in its genius, intrinsically knows how to provide the animal kingdom everything it needs for optimal health. Blue-green algae is one of nature’s superstars providing a full spectrum of 65 fully balanced, naturally developed vitamins, minerals, amino acids (chains of amino acids make protein) and your essential fatty acids.

AFA nourishes your cells and helps restore balance in your overall system. Frozen E3Live (AFA) is believed to be 97% absorbable by your body. (this is huge!)… Man-made supplements are lucky to be 5% to 25% absorbable… a lot of wasted nutrition.

You don’t have to be concerned with side-effects when consuming AFA and toxicity is kept at a minimum due to the isolated and ideal growing conditions.

How Long Does it Take to Notice a Difference?

When consuming Klamath blue-green alga, the beneficial effects may appear subtle. However, in my experience, I noticed a calming sense of well-being. In my case, this is HUGE! I have been assaulted with mood swings for years… until I started AFA supplementation. (due to high concentrations of PEA)

You may notice something right away. Everyone’s physiology is different. We all react to things differently. This is common knowledge. It may take weeks or longer to notice anything, but AFA is working overtime to provide what you need. It is food. You may not notice a banana doing anything, but I assure you it is doing the job nature intended for you.

You have to think long-term in regard to your health. Society, however, is wired for immediate gratification. Copywriters state that it is more difficult selling prevention than a cure. You would probably spend every penny you have to cure yourself of an insidious disease.

Rest assured… E3AFA is tested to verify the purity and nutrient content… it is throwing down hard behind the scenes to nourish your body and busy activating natural killer cells to build up your natural defense against free radical scavengers.

Can Pregnant or Nursing Mothers use AFA?

It is recommended that pregnant or women nursing consult with their medical or healthcare practitioner before using AFA.

Is AFA Pet Friendly?

YOU BET! In Fact, Veterinarians love treating your pets that have nutritional deficiencies with E3Live and E3AFA. Benefits are especially noticed in older animals-. You may take note of more youthful-like movements and a better quality of life.

E3Live carry products designed especially for your beloved dogs and cats: E3 Canine and E3 Feline. Other animals like horses, birds, and reptiles may benefit from AFA supplementation.

Horse owners absolutely love E3Live for changes seen in their horse’s hooves, coats, and overall health and well-being.

E3Live offers a one-year guarantee that you will “See the Difference” when you supplement your pet’s diet with their AFA formulated for pets.

Thanks for reading my review.  Algae is part of my daily regime for keeping a strong immune system.  There have been moments when I felt a bug begin to attack my immune system and I added several more doses of algae throughout the day and the pesky little cold or sinus infection just went away.  It is simply amazing.  I have bought every algae from every company except Pure Synergy and have been satisfied with every one of them.

The E3Live comes to your doorstep still frozen and requires a little more work.  It is the closest you can get in its natural unaltered state.  This is the one I currently use, but I have been completely satisfied with Power Organics and Green Earth Naturals.  I just recently purchased more Himalayan salt from Power Organics.  Their salt has been tested to be of the highest quality.

I am not here to lay claim to any specific cures by using Klamath blue-green algae.  I can only offer my own testimonial of how it has benefited me.  Algae is food and, as many foods found on this wonderful planet of ours, can support your overall health and well-being.

What are the Benefits of Blue Green Algae and Why You Should Consider adding it to your Diet

Blue-green algae is a certified superfood. The benefits of blue-green algae are plentiful and diverse. It has a profound effect on your immune system. Never before in the history of our beloved planet, has there been so much attention about your immune system. Regardless of how you feel about Covid-19, everyone is paying attention to their health and well-being these days… staying safe… keeping their DISTANCE from germs. Many are panicking and consumed with fear. Others just want to get on with their lives.

Who is most affected by this heinous pandemic? Our loved ones with weak immune systems are the most likely candidates to suffer from Covid-19. The majority of people who succumb to the virus have other health issues, to begin with. (the current prognosis)

You can increase your odds of staying safe. With a strong and vibrant immune system, you can escape the full effects of the flu, the common cold, sinus infections, allergy season, and many other bacterium. You may feel a little off, but your immune system does its job warding off the worst cellular attacks.

The truth is you can take charge of your own health. Life is better when you feel good physically. Being and feeling healthy has a far-reaching effect on your emotional well-being. Blue-green algae can help you in reaching and maintaining optimum health. Did you know algae has a long history with life on planet Earth…

Algae is Ancient… the First Life Forms on Earth

All life on earth can trace its origins back to algae. There would be no life on our planet without algae. Algae provide the nutritional foundation for our ecosystem. It’s responsible for 90% of photosynthesis on earth and 70% of oxygen comes from algae. In fact, oxygen is a byproduct of algae.

Algae are the most efficient organisms on Earth. Carbon Dioxide, sunlight, and water have turned algae into the most nutrient-dense food. It has supplied the food chain (for all life) for 3.5 million years. Organisms and creatures from the bottom of the food chain to our LARGEST WHALES rely on algae. Algae provide all the nutrition needed to sustain life.

Humans have also thrived off this wonderful superfood. Algae has been a staple food for many cultures dating back thousands of years. There are over 20,000 different species of algae. This post is about a specific species called blue-green algae. You have probably heard the name if you follow holistic health. So…what are the benefits of adding blue-green algae to your diet…

Klamath Lake Blue-Green Algae

Why you should add Blue-Green Algae to your Diet

Algae has one of the most complete and balanced nutritional profiles of any food in the world. The entire organism is nutritious. Gram for gram microalgae contains the most nutrients on earth of any food source. Blue-green algae contain a full spectrum of vitamins unusually found in a single food source.

AFA (short for Aphanizomenon flos-aqua ) is a species of Blue-Green Algae harvested from the pristine waters of Upper Klamath Lake in Southern Oregon. This lake is the best-known source of pure AFA and has been harvested since the 1980s.  AFA is grown wild. Humans do not intervene until harvest time.

AFA has 12 vitamins and 27 naturally occurring or essential minerals. These are considered essential nutrients performing hundreds of duties for your body. Boosting your immune system, healing wounds, and repairing cellular damage are some of the rewards of AFA consumption. They also help convert your food into energy.

It also contains glycoproteins which are a carbohydrate attached to a protein. Glycoproteins are involved in nearly every process in your cells. They do many important things for your body: such as immune system support, communication with your cells, help with blood clotting when you are cut, and also play a role in your digestive and reproduction systems. Blue-green algae contain one of the highest concentrations of protein.

AFA also contains lipids (healthy fats), bioflavonoids, and biologically active enzymes. Blue-green algae are a primary source of essential fatty acids (EFAs) and unsaturated fatty acids EPA and DHA. AFA contains the highest vegetable sources of vitamin B-12. And finally… AFA is loaded with free-radical fighting antioxidants…

Now having said that… ADDITIONAL IMMUNE SUPPORT… comes from your own self-renewal system in your body once consuming AFA… within 2 hours your body’s own natural killer cells migrate to search and destroy sick cells. They possess intelligence, in the cellular environment, to go exactly where your body requires the most attention at that time.

Natural killer cells play an active role in immune system support. No other dietary substance has shown the ability to stimulate NK cells like AFA. Blue-green algae may also stimulate red blood cell production. NK Cells are also found in the placenta and play an important role in pregnancy.

Natural killer cells were first noticed for their ability to kill tumor cells without priming. This is how they earned their name. NK Cells have the ability to communicate with other cells and if they don’t receive the right “signal” back from those cells, the natural killer cells will annihilate those sick cells. There is a communication process going on in the cellular world. Your body is programmed to rebalance itself. Pretty cool, huh!

Klamath blue-green algae contain an abundant source of phenylethylamine or simply known as PEA. This is a naturally occurring substance in the body and can also be created in a laboratory setting.

Pea acts as a neurotransmitter (chemical messenger… communicating with cells, muscles, and glands). This allows you to operate with a heightened sense of focus and attention. Your ability to focus on goals and task completion may improve… You could develop more mental clarity It has a natural amphetamine effect on your brain offering more energy and stamina.

In addition to feeling like you have more pep in your step, PEA is a wonderful mood enhancer. This is what I love about AFA. I will swear on a stack of bibles on how well my mood has been elevated. I have been “moody” for most of my adult life and once I discovered the calming and joyful effects of PEA, I will never be without. I prefer to get PEA from AFA (and not in a supplement) since it is more readily absorbable in its crystalline form.

PEA has the ability to amplify the actions of major brain chemicals: serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and acetylcholine. Phelylethylamine may also help slow down your body’s aging process.

SOME CAUTIONARY ADVICE: People that have abnormally high levels of natural occurring phelylethylamine should avoid taking a PEA supplement (schizophrenia, bipolar, and agitated depression suffers). However, there have been positive studies in treating these types of disorders with blue-green algae. Getting PEA from algae in its natural state is the best way to benefit from it.

Nature always offers the best choice. For example…. raw honey… it has many healthy components… I am diabetic and when I consume raw honey… as long as used in moderation… it doesn’t jack my sugars too high. There are some studies to back that up too. If were to use a heated source of “honey”, my sugars would go berserk. There is just something special about food is in its natural form… does that make sense?

Scientists have discovered that adult stem cells migrate from your bone marrow into your bloodstream. As mentioned earlier this post… There is an internal communication process happening in the cellular worldAdult Stem cells have shown the ability to go where they are most needed!

Once in your bloodstream, stem cells migrate to troubled areas like damaged tissues or sick cells. Their mission… renew and repair. Studies have demonstrated that an adult stem cell can become any type of cell in the body. A brain cell… a liver cell… a muscle cell… so on and so forth.

Stem cell nutrition is still in its infancy in the health and wellness field and more will be revealed in time. This has nothing to do with embryonic stem cells and relies totally on your body’s own releasing of stem cells. This already occurs naturally. Stem Cell Nutrition is about using natural food sources to induce more stem cell production.

The adult stem cell renewal process continues throughout your life…never stopping for vacations or weekends… until your very last breath. Your stem cell production will decline with age, so it is important to find a way to release more from your bone marrow. AFA algae provide a safer alternative to increase your natural flow of stem cells. Blue-green algae may be Nature’s Secret Weapon!

Why is Klamath blue-green algae better?

Upper Klamath Lake is a large shallow freshwater lake in Southern Oregon. Klamath Lake is surrounded by the Cascade Mountains and sits at 4100 feet above sea level. Its remote location protects its pristine water from pollutants since no big cites are nearby.

When rainfall hits the face of the Cascade’s, it rolls on down to Crater Lake. (a very well-known secluded deep water Lake) Crater Lake is 6176 feet above sea level and 1936 feet deep. Crater Lake is a self-contained lake formed by a volcanic eruption that is fed by rain and the melting of its abundant annual snowfalls. Water, from the lake, seeps into the Klamath basin probably through underground streams, which would be scantly polluted. Sure… rainfall carries pollutants… but some of the cleanest environments in the U.S. are located in the Pacific Northwest and far away from the coasts and on the other side of mountain ranges.

By the time water reaches Klamath Lake, it has filtered through mineral-rich volcanic soil. There are numerous active volcanoes in the Pacific Northwest. There are actually 4 volcanoes in Oregon that pose a highly active eruption threat at any time in the future. Volcanic ash is loaded with nutrients and is able to break down quickly. It mixes well with the soil and plants flourish.

The combination of mineral-rich water, clean air, and high-intensity sunlight create the perfect eco-system for AFA. The Blue-Green Algae grows wild here and just thrives off the mineral-rich water. No cultivation is required and the algae is only harvested at peak times when AFA’s nutrition is at optimum levels. The end result… High-Quality Non-Toxic Blue-Green Algae.

Why Dietary Supplements Fail to Really Help

Refined nutritional supplements are made in a lab. They are not natural foods and your body does not have the capability to break them down properly. They are not able to disintegrate in a timely manner. This is such a waste of nutrients.

Many supplements contain binders and fillers. These are added for the proper functioning of manufacturing machinery and may not serve in the best interest of your health.

Have you noticed the glossy shiny look of some supplements?  These coatings are for keeping out moisture and ensuring a longer shelf life. Good for the vitamin company… you… not so much.

AFA algae is natures perfect solution for getting all the nutrients that you need day-to-day. The microscopic size and soft cell wall of algae is designed by nature for perfect absorption into your body. The minerals in AFA are easily absorbed by your body because they are bonded to amino acids… just as nature intended.

Is algae safe to eat?

Algae for consumption has to be tested to make sure it does not contain any microcystins. This is a toxin that could cause liver damage. Laboratory methods are used to make sure the algae is free from microcystins. Make sure your Klamath algae has been governed by the US Agriculture Department and has undergone numerous tests to ensure safety.

Why are Vitamins so important?

Vitamins are essential for your health and well-being. These organic compounds are necessary in small amounts. They help stimulate growth and aid in the overall maintenance of your system. Their job is not to provide energy, nor do they construct or build any part of your body; however, they do transform food into energy. AFA offers a complete balance of your daily vitamins (except vitamins D and E). Spend some time daily out in the sun for vitamin D, and eating foods high in chlorophyll helps produce vitamin E in your body.

Why Minerals are so vital for your Health

Minerals are imperative for the proper functioning of your mind and body. They aid in the building and regulating functions in your body. Minerals are involved in building strong bones and all soft tissues. They are also involved in regulating your cardiovascular system, internal pressures of bodily fluids, nerve response, and help transport oxygen from your lungs to your tissues.

AFA contains virtually every organic mineral in trace amounts that are essential for your body to function at an optimum level. Minerals make all the difference in the world in keeping your body healthy and avoiding insidious diseases. Minerals only account for about 1% of your daily food intake, but without them, you would not be able to utilize your food and you would not be long for this world.

How Important are Amino Acids?

Metabolism is the result of chemical processes occurring in your body to maintain your life. These processes require energy. You need to ingest various foods to create this energy. Protein is needed for building and repairing tissue. Protein is also used for making enzymes, hormones, and other bodily chemicals. It is also an important building block of bones, cartilage, skin, muscles, and blood.

Protein is the second most abundant substance in your body (water being the first of course). A huge portion of your blood and lymph is made up of protein and it creates a natural immunity by helping the body recognize viruses and invading foreign cells.

Proteins consist of smaller building blocks (joined together in chains) called amino acids. Your hemoglobin, which is a protein molecule, carries oxygen from your lungs to your tissues. Your immune system cells rely on protein to fight off viruses and other cellular attacks.

AFA is absolutely loaded with healthy plant-based protein (minus nasty artery-clogging animal fats). This amazing blue-green algae has more protein than any other organism. 22 amino acids are found in this tiny superfood. 8 of these amino acids are paramount for proper health and must be obtained from the foods we eat.

Your health will suffer without getting the right amount of amino acids daily. Do you know what happens when you don’t receive your proper dosage of amino acids? Your less important body tissues are “cannibalized” to make up for the loss. Premature aging may begin to set in… loss of memory… you may feel less motivated… lower mental alertness… and or depression may occur.

The amazing thing is, the amino acid profile in algae is nearly identical to your body’s own amino acid profile. AFA is truly one of nature’s most perfect foods.

What do you Know about Chlorophyll?

Chlorophyll is good for your blood and immune system support. Chlorophyll is a molecule that helps increase the availability of oxygen in your system. Chlorophyll is essential for the body’s rapid assimilation of amino acids. What is the highest known source of chlorophyll… you guessed right… Algae.

Are you Familiar with Beta Carotene?

You need Vitamin A for healthy skin, mucous membranes, eye health, and the immune system. Your body converts beta carotene into Vitamin A. Vegetables like carrots are a good source of beta carotene. Beta carotene may be the most important factor in enhancing your immune system (because it protects the thymus gland); however, to get the optimal results out of beta carotene, cartenoids must also be present.

AFA consists of dozens of carotenoids. These help stop free radicals in their tracks and side-stepping cell damage. Leading degenerative disease research has demonstrated a lower incidence of degenerative diseases in diets high in foods containing beta carotene.

Final Thoughts

Americans have bought into a system of eating highly processed, nutrient-deficient, and genetically altered foods. And many countries around the globe are following in our footsteps Look around… so many people are carrying extra weight around and we have a severe health crisis on our hands.

People just don’t give much thought in what they put into their mouths and are bombarded with advertisements for fast foods and snacks (which are not even food). Most of the hideous degenerative disease is the direct result of diets consisting of unhealthy foods. On top of that, we are depleting our soils of nutrients causing our fruits and vegetables to be less nutrient-dense.

WHAT CAN YOU DO? You need to eat a diet consisting of foods in their raw, natural form… The higher the quality of foods… the better. You want food that has all of its enzymes intact. The vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, carbohydrates, and its life force still residing in the food.

Put as much raw (uncooked) food in your diet as possible. Organic, if possible. Eating organic unprocessed foods, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds provides the nutrients your body craves while avoiding noxious harmful preservatives, herbicides, and pesticides.

AFA offers another solution. It provides raw organic nutrition with all the benefits discussed in this post. It is a real simple solution and food so incredibly light and quick... You just swallow it in powder, capsule, or liquid form with 8 ounces of filtered water first thing upon arising in the morning. You have just met your nutritional requirement for the day.

Now, everything else is up to you. Do you still want to eat processed foods deplete in any life force? Algae is an excellent food to add to your diet, but do consider taking a look at everything else you consume. What is in it? Is it full of chemicals? Do you even know what these things do to your body?

I pay close attention to what I eat and prepare all my food. I rarely get any kind of take out. I have to know what is in the food I eat today. I have been able to clear up some health issues by my diet. I follow a low-fat plant-based diet and have benefited amazingly from this plan. Weight comes off naturally for me and my blood pressure is now normal. My blood sugar is going down as I continue… it was really bad before I changed my eating habits.

Algae has improved my health even further. My energy is through the roof… I am 58. I am able to type clear-headed into the early morning hours… I could not do this before… my brain would crash… I even fell asleep standing up once and hit a guard rail on knob road in the early evening after falling asleep. So yea, I don’t nod out like I used to. The thing I like the most… I feel pleasant… Properties in AFA (PEA) really affect me in a positive way. I benefit from a general well-sense of being and to top it off, I don’t get sick anymore. At times, I felt a little bit of something and it just goes away quickly.
